Dapper Don's blog had a real good piece today on Nick Scarfo Jr wanting to be transferred out of P.C. and into general population. The writer of the story, William Bender with Philly.com mentions the objections of the Federal District judge on letting Scarfo and Sal Pelullo, another defendent on being released on bail.
The article goes more into detail regarding the 'safety' of Scarfo, as if Nicky Jr. had to worry about getting raped or stabbed, and primarily mentions the attempted assassination of Scarfo on Halloween '89.
Reading it though I reminded myself of the recent murder of a Gotti Jr. associate a few weeks ago at a USP by a black dude named Hurley. I read it over at Rick Porello's awesome site. I just thought it was cheesy and tacky for the government attorneys To make it sound as if Scarfo was in fear or afraid of other inmates. Almost insulting by government attorneys.
Oh, and post script; Gotti Jr's buddy was stabbed at Canaan and was doin' a life sentence on Italian-American issues; I mean racketeering. Hurley, the aggressor was scheduled for release in like 2016 or 2026, somethin' like that. Joseph O'Kane was the name of John Jr's buddy.

Wheres he being held in Camden or Philadelphia? DON'T WORRY ABOUT me, judge. Those Philly wiseguys wouldn't lay a hand on me. I'm untouchable. That's basically what Nicodemo Scarfo Jr., son of former Philadelphia mob boss Nicodemo "Little Nicky" Scarfo, told U.S. District Judge Robert Kugler in Camden yesterday. And it worked. Scarfo, 46, an alleged made member of New York's Lucchese crime family awaiting trial on corporate-fraud charges in New Jersey, will be removed from a protective unit at the federal lockup at 7th and Arch streets. He'll join the general population with a half-dozen Philly mobsters there. "I just don't feel like my life's in danger," Scarfo told the judge. Wonder if he felt the same way on Halloween night 1989, when he sat down for dinner at Dante & Luigi's in South Philadelphia and was sprayed with bullets by a costumed man who pulled a gun out of a trick-or-treat bag. "He got pretty well-perforated," a law-enforcement source recalled yesterday. Former mob boss Joey Merlino has long been the prime suspect in what authorities considered a botched hit intended to send a message to Scarfo's father. Afterward, the younger Scarfo relocated to New Jersey and joined the Lucchese crime family, according to investigators. Merlino, now living in Florida, was never charged in the shooting. Now Scarfo, accused of shaking down a Texas-based mortgage firm for millions, might find himself in the same prison population as jailed Philly mob boss Joseph Ligambi and five underlings awaiting trial on racketeering charges. A law-enforcement source said "ongoing tension" exists between the Philly faction of La Cosa Nostra - which includes Merlino's allies - and Scarfo's Lucchese family. So will Scarfo be in danger mingling with Philly gangsters? "He could be," a law-enforcement official said. Kugler rejected a motion by Michael Riley, Scarfo's court-appointed attorney, to have him freed on bail. But, Riley said, at least getting Scarfo out of protective custody will enable Scarfo and him to better review the indictment, which includes about 7,500 intercepted conversations and text messages and about a million pages of documents. "You're talking to a guy through a glass wall, basically," Riley said of Scarfo's current status. A law-enforcement source said Scarfo might feel safe because the Philly mob is so weakened by indictments that it wouldn't want to start trouble with New York by going after him. "He really didn't say why he's not concerned, but he seemed pretty confident he'll be fine," Riley said. "Hopefully, bygones are bygones." http://fivefamiliesnyc.blogspot.com/2011/12/rival-mobsters-set-to-mingle-in-federal.htmlthis article says "LE sources" say Philly has beef with the Lucchese Jersey Crew?

A lot of people you think would want to take his case pro-bono, get there name out. Haha, I actually have the same lawyer as Scarfo does on this case, he's a great guy (my lawyer) I think he is going to do as well as he can...

A lot of people you think would want to take his case pro-bono, get there name out. Haha, I actually have the same lawyer as Scarfo does on this case, he's a great guy (my lawyer) I think he is going to do as well as he can... He already has a big name, he has defended Rabbi Neulander (Rabbi who had his wife hit), some local famous drug dealers from Camden, the Fort Dix terrorists...and lil ol' me lol... What's interesting is that in Scarfo's case is he is a court appointed lawyer, what a lot of people do not realize is that in big federal cases you can get a damn good lawyer appointed to you by the courts. This is because the cases tend to be so complex they don't want some rookie making a mistake and them having to retry the case. Given their conviction rate, and how many people plead out it is a better risk for the govt. to hand out good lawyers than to risk spending more tax money in tough economic times. When he did the Fort Dix case it was the same deal I believe, his name is Mike Riley, based out of Mount Holly, NJ. So in short, Scarfo Jr. will be getting a better deal on my lawyer than I did...yet somehow I think he is doing better than me...call it a hunch...

^^^I dont think he does, they def have more stuff to worry about than scarfo j, plus scarfo jr is a made guy in the lucchese fam who as per the indictment was kicking up cash to the official boss of that fam vic amuso, so hitting scarfo jr in the can will not be good for relations with ny for philly
my two cents

Awesome article, thanks for sharing. I wouldn't imagine Scarfo JR has much to worry about it. He hasn't made any observed overtures about wanting to go back to Philly to run things has he? If not, i would imagine his "made" status in the Luccheses' should protect him unless he does anything stupid. well actually there was rumblings back when he was running things in Jersey for the Lucchese's that he wanted to make moves and take over the Philly fam, there were a number of articles about that and apparently that was one of the reasons NY demoted him as Boss and brought in Perna to take over, i remember reading a Capeci article where there was a wiretap of Perna who was very happy on his way to see Scarfo Jr to tell him he was being demoted

Investigators were watching Aug. 9 when Ralph Perna and his son, Joseph, met at a diner in the Bronx with DiNapoli. And authorities were listening minutes later when Joseph called his brother John to tell him that their father had been tapped to replace Scarfo as head of the New Jersey branch of the crime family. "He's the new captain," Joseph Perna told his brother, adding, "Tomorrow I'm going down to tell the other kid he's demoted." John, laughing, said, "I bet you're all broken up about that." The brothers then referred to media reports raising the possibility that Scarfo Jr. might make a move against those controlling the Philadelphia crime family his father Nicodemo once headed. That was part of the reason he was being demoted, they said. Two days later, investigators used the GPS hidden in Joseph Perna's Infiniti to track him to a meeting on the Garden State Parkway with Scarfo Jr. During that meeting, according to the affidavit, Scarfo was told he was being demoted. http://articles.philly.com/2007-12-24/news/24996965_1_mob-boss-gambling-case-gambling-operation/3An anonymous mob insider has said that former mob boss Nicky Scarfo's son, Nicky Scarfo Jr., who recently moved to the Jersey Shore after his release from federal prison, is looking to return to Philadelphia's organized crime scene, Fox 29 News reported. According to the anonymous source, Scarfo Jr., 42, has been rounding up a crew of "wannabe" mobsters from Jersey, and has his eye on mob boss Joe Ligambi's job. According to Scarfo Jr.'s lawyer, Scarfo Jr. moved to the shore to be close to his mother and brother, and is working for a cement contractor in Atlantic City, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. http://blog.nj.com/gloucester/2007/08/mob_insider_scarfo_jr_looking.htmlhttp://www.philly.com/philly/video/BC61435805001.htmlcheck this out apparently natale offered to make nicky jr a capo in philly in charge of ac but was told jr wasnt interested http://books.google.com/books?id=uDwTvcOq_bQC&pg=PA175&lpg=PA175&dq=scarfo%27s+son+at+jersey+shore&source=bl&ots=gwDKJx6Z9p&sig=Ff8XxPKzYgHxOR0XObh-Xn7aMW8&hl=en&sa=X&ei=k9oET-CwMKP50gH79qmsAg&ved=0CFIQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=scarfo%27s%20son%20at%20jersey%20shore&f=false this book also talks about how scarfo sr put out contracts on natale, skinny joey through vic amuso/lucchese family

Thanks Dappah and Ivy. Media coverage affecting the politics of a secretive organization? I have to admire Nicky Jr, one made due to nepotism but has earned respect and success from a borgata he did not grow up around. I mean some had to be resentful of his quick 'making' in 1989 just due to his father, but he's made a name in his own right.

Scarfo's murder contracts on Natale, Merlino, and Previte was all hot air. He reached out to NY and he was pretty much told to kick rocks. Leonetti and Fresolone flipping implicated many NY mobsters and they all blamed Scarfo for it and there was no way they were going to put him back in charge.
He had no loyalists left in town by that point anyway.
