GREAT example, Sonny. The most telling scene in that episode, in my opinion, was when Paulie asked for "macaroni and gravy" during dinner with the Italian mob crew. It's clear to everyone at the table, except to himself, that Paulie is an American, through and through, whether he realizes this or not.
