This is something I have been curious about for a long time. The EU Court of Human Rights is pretty strict about enforcing human rights and prisoner's rights, at least compared to the US Supreme Court. I can't believe this law hasn't been struck down. I guess I'm naive. Also it seems to me that the Italian people have a less pro-authority attitude than the Americans (that is just my presumption, please correct me if I'm wrong) so I would have expected more public opposition to 41bis.

This law is disgusting and fascist, it is legalised psychological torture and blackmail.

Can I ask you guys from Italy: Does life imprisonment mean life? How does the length of sentences compare with the US?


What happened to this thing? We bend more rules than the Catholic Church.
