Yams and bananas?? I get that bananas are phallic, but yams?? Really? When I worked in a supermarket, we called the cucumbers "widow's delights", but never had a nickname for the yams.

Buddy Holly is finally getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in honor of what would be his 75th birthday. According to the article there are rumors that Paul McCartney may show up. smile I have yet to be there when someone is getting honored, but damn, if I knew for sure McCartney would be there, it would be worth the trip. smile At least per the article they will show it on our local stations.

I'm a HUGE Buddy Holly fan, but why is he getting a star?

I mean, he wasn't an actor.

How does that Walk of Fame thing work? I guess you don't have to be an actor??

Oh no you don't have to be an actor, although I couldn't list the exact criteria for you. If I'm not mistaken I think the Beatles have a star as a group, and each of them (not sure about Ringo) also have an individual star. I think even Regis Philbin has a star. smile

It is really kind of "showy" if you ask me, BUT it is cool walking along and finding your favorite celebrities star. There is always a short ceremony and the few times I've been there had I seen a ceremony taking place, I'm sure I'd go take a peek.

Btw, I wonder if the real "Peggy Sue" will be there. Plus wasn't Holly married when he died (not sure if he married Peggy Sue)

Edit

Here's a link (although from 2000) listing criteria. smile

Yeah, he was married when he died, Tis. His widow (Maria Elena Santiago) was his sole heir, and owns all of his "intellectual property" to this day.

There's no love lost between Santiago and Peggy Sue. Santiago tried (unsucessfully) to sue her a few years ago.

PB,

Now that you mentioned Santiago's name, it rings bells. I didn't know of a lawsuit. Although I can understand how Maria might feel, what would she sue Peggy Sue for? confused

Peggy Sue had written some kind of book that Santiago didn't want published. It was eventually published, and flopped anyway.

It's worth mentioning that Buddy Holly was the only bearable thing ever to come out of Texas whistle.

You're too easy, Oli. You know I'm kidding for crying out loud lol.

And Lubbock, Texas didn't just produce Buddy Holly. Jill Goodacre is also from that cow town. Yum grin.

Just to follow-up on the Buddy Holly Star on Walk of Fame. Evidently, his wife, Gary Busey (who played Holly in the movie) and Peter Asher (of Peter & Gordon fame)were in attendance. I don't know who the others are and can't tell which one is Asher. I hear Asher has made a tribute album to Holly.

Are any of you New Yorkers familiar with the Morisania area of the Bronx? I came across it while reading about the Constitutional Convention and delegate Gouvenour Morris whose family apparently had estates in that area. Is it still a distinct area and is it still a wealthy area?
