Abe Reles was able to recount about 80 plus murders. You had members like Pittsburgh Phil, "Happy" Maione and "Blue Jaw" Magoon etc. who were responsible for quite a few murders. They were not members of Cosa Nostra, but were every bit as ruthless. Personally I believe the Roy Demeo crew was meant to emulate the Murder Inc. gang.
