The 80's into the first few years of the 90's seemed to be a particualry deadly era in mafia circles. There seemed to be a never ending supply of capible killers (Sammy the Bull, Greg Scarpa, DeMeo crew, Tommy Pitera, Charles Carneglia, Tony Mirra, Casso, Scarfo was having people killed left and right, Colomboes were killing each other wholesale, etc) then. It also helped the police and FBI didn't have the powers and suffocating presence they have today, it is hard to even get away with running a red light or speeding these days.
