We had a big snowstorm in Feb, 1969 which, much like this past one, left MANY streets unplowed for a week. Then Mayor, John Lindsay, ended up taking the blame for the poor response by the City to clear the snow. The next election (three years later) brought up the snowstorm as a focal point and Lindsay lost the election.

I'm kind of mixed about the Jersey governor thing. He was already in Florida when the storm hit AND it had NOT been forecast to be such a bad storm (until only about 36 hours before it started). He's certainly due a vacation BUT he went about claiming that fact in a very poor and unpolitical way. This will come back to haunt him.
