I was just watching "Mean Girls" on TV. Excellent movie! One thing that struck me was that the movie seems like basically a teenage girls version of "Goodfellas." The two films have so much in common. In both, the main character also serves as a narrator. Both films have an addictive, forward moving, exhilarating energy that reaches out and energizes the viewer, and both are fast paced. Both immerse the viewer in a particular subculture--the world of the mob in Goodfellas, the "girl world" of high school in Mean Girls--so completely that the viewer feels like they themselves are a part of that world. And in both, the main characters have a "fall" where they drop out of the worlds they've been living in and adopt a more mundane, tranquil existence (although unlike Henry Hill, Cady Heron is happy with her life at the end).

It would be interesting to see if Mean Girls was actually modeled on Goodfellas. Your thoughts?

Let me tell ya somethin my kraut mick friend!
