Surf over to MSN and look at the photo of Brett Favre's wife giving him a look. Wow!

I recognize that look as one my wife has given me a few times.

We need to give all females starting in grade school a primer on the NFL and they should each have to pass an exam about it before they are allowed to date or marry.

He is Brett Favre, one of the greatest QBs in NFL history. He supposedly sent a fomer Jets employee pictures of himself naked from the waste down.

This female knows probably as much about football as most men I know. Bring it on. Any mate of mine would be a football widow. Sundays I'm plopped on my couch from 1-8. Not to be disturbed.

Favre is a dick all over, so I hope he had an extra wide lens.

Oli,

Ha ha ha!! Would that be before or after the ladies give the guys lessons/tests on "how to spend the day shopping at the local mall?"

I admit, I'm ignorant on sports matters. grin

No, you don't give guys lessons/tests on mall shopping; you give him tranquilizers so he can float through that inane activity.

The ice maker in my fridge went last winter and I finally gave Sears a call a couple weeks ago. They talked me into an annual service contract for $270 enabling a years' worth of service at no charge (up to $500 per visit). I didn't know if that was a good deal or not -- and I NEVER buy service contracts for new items, but this fridge is 9 years old. He just came and replaced a couple circuit boards which would have cost me $281 without the contract, so I guess it's a good deal!

If it happened when the fridge was 10 yrs old, I wouldn't have been able to get the contract. But now that I have it, I can renew it every year no matter how old it is. So I guess I'm in good shape until I replace it. cool At $270/year, though, I might consider replacing it a year from now.

They might get you on a technicality, Geoff. If they see all the vodka in the freezer they might consider your fridge a commercial account.

Geoff,

Sounds like it paid off for you and that's good. However, I never get the extended warranty. In my experience, appliances especially almost last forever or, at least until I'm ready for a new one. It's a gamble really. I guess yours is an example as to why it's good. smile

TIS, it seems my parent's ice make broke every year or two, so that's why I figured it'd be a good idea for the fridge/freezer. I probably wouldn't get it for anything else (at least anything new). This WAS worth it cuz I only paid for Year 9, AFTER it broke. wink

Our refrigerator is almost 12 years old. Considering that we paid a fortune for it back in 1999, I didn't consider that "old" for a major appliance, but a salesman in Sears told me that you can't expect more than 8-10 years from one. I figured that was just salesmanship, but an acquaintance of ours repairs appliances for a living. He actually said that's correct.

My fridge is 25 years old.

It does strain somewhat in the hot humid summer weather, but - like Old Man River - it keeps rolling along.

I'm just thankful it's self-defrosting. In the apartment I lived in from 1980-1985, there was a refrigerator that was probably at least 20 years old and it needed defrosting regularly (something I absolutely hated doing). I'll never forget the time I had just started to do the defrosting then unexpectedly fell asleep for around four or five hours and woke up to find over an inch of water covering my entire kitchen floor. uhwhat

I remember those fridges that you had to defrost. I only had one, when I first got married and was starting out. I hated defrosting. Remember when "self defrosting" (is that what it was called?) was a new feature. lol Defrosting your refrigerator? It's so dated. lol

Talk about dated. Heck I remember when you wanted to bake a potato or heat up some leftover lasagna, you'd have to turn on the oven and it'd take an hour to preheat and warm. Damn, thank God for microwaves.

Defrosting? I just wait for the block of ice to melt.

Speaking of the "olden days". When I had my first baby disposable diapers were sold, yet not everyone used them. I had a few dozen cloth diapers and intended to use cloth to disposable. I was prepared right? I thought I was.

Included in some of the baby gifts (and when hospitals gave departing gifts) were disposable diapers. Well, I think on the first messy diaper I changed, I said, "I don't need this shit." lol All those cloth diapers were used to clean windows or I'd use as dust rags. Some things are just to irresistible to NOT take advantage of. lol

Ironic that you mention this. We just went out last week to buy a new refrigerator. The one that we had was a GE and was about 20 years old. It finally began to strain this past summer and milk and such was going bad faster than the expiration dates indicated.

Anyway we went to several places and finally found another GE, almost the same exact refrigerator as the on that we had, at PC Richards.

I have to say that over the years all of the GE kitchen appliances that we still own or have owned have lasted an extremely long time, maybe requiring a minimal amount of service, if any at all.

Did your parents have an "oil man" deliver olive oil, dry sausage, etc. to your house?

Yup. And don't forget the Fuller Brush man!

Even the insurance man came door to door. Everyone made "house calls." That personal touch is gone forever. And I'm not being a sentimentalist when I post that. It happens to be the truth. The plain, sad, ugly truth ohwell.

I don't remember an oil man or sausage man but I remember the Fuller Brush guy.

We had a regular milkman, John Palazzolo and I think an insurance man. My mom usually shooed every door to door sales person away. lol However, every now and then I remember her letting in the Avon lady. Remember.... Avon calling???

The insurance man. Haaa! My grandmother used to tell us to be quiet when playing outside because "Jimmy The Insurance Man" was coming over.

We also had what we referred to, and I do not intend to offend anyone here, a salesman named Hy The Jew.

Hy was a Hasidic Jewish man who used to come to the home with books, selling things out of a catalog that you could buy and then pay him on what later became known in retail as a layaway plan. The only difference was with Hy you would get your merchandise and then pay him back over time.

He would come by once or twice a month for his money. I remember when the bell would ring and I would answer the door he would say "tell your grandmother that Hy the Jew is here!"

My mother always told me that if it were not for HY my grandpaarents would not have been able to afford to provide a lot of the furnisihings that they had for their home with all the children that they had. Hy made it affordable and manageable for my grandmother.

Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.
