This type of human interest story used to be big on radioo during the Great Depression.... little kids trapped in wells, miners in cave-ins, etc.
SC, I'm sure you've seen "Radio Days". Woody Allen put in a wonderful scene about the family listening to a broadcast about a little girl trapped in a well. It was a fictionalized version of an actual event in 1949.
