Seriously he was supposed to have the job that Dumars has now but something happened. Nobody every really found out what. One rumor was that Old Man Davidson didn't care for the links that Thomas had to local criminals via high stakes gambling. But the story I heard was simply that Thomas had prematurely been telling people that the GM job was his and that Davidson didn't care for that one bit. Whatever the story was only Davidson and Thomas knew for sure and Thomas isn't talking.
