At first, considering his relationship with his parents, I wasn't sure what her role might be, but this hospital picture sure is incriminating.

I heard her say on Entertainment Tonight earlier in the week that there was "another" will Coleman wrote that left everything to her. I read a story today somewhere on-line that her lawyer has an "unsigned" will. Well, what good is an unsigned will? I'm wondering if she wasn't just lingering around after their divorce, just to "be there." Sounds cold, but could be.

Hmmmm..... This may call for a little explanation:

James Dean (Rebel Without A Cause), of course, was the young actor who died in a famous car crash on September 30, 1955. Definitely not The Sausage Guy.

Jimmy Dean was the country music singer who had the hit record "Big Bad John" (written as a tribute to John Wayne). He later started the sausage company that still bears his name. Actually, many younger folks don't realize that the singer/actor and Sausage Guy were one and the same.

Speaking of Jimmy Dean Sausages, several years ago he sold it to the Sara Lee company, and they promptly dropped him as their on-air commercial spokesman because they felt he was too old and they were trying to attract younger customers.

Of course, another candidate for The Sausage Guy would be Jimmy Hoffa, considering the persistant rumors of his ultimate fate. Please excuse me for not posting any "links"....

Haven't been getting to the BB as much as I would like - computer at home is now just about useless so I'm back to the public library.

But, here and there, I'm still around. As Mark Twain said, "The report of my death has been grossly exaggerated!"

Had to give up that Beatles band several months ago. It was necessary for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was that I had seriously damaged my vocal chords. But I have been rediscovering my Inner Folk Singer, and my fingers are screaming in agony since I decided to pick up the guitar again after a hiatus of many years.

Edith Shain, nurse in famous WW2 photograph died. She was 91.


Edith Shain said she was grabbed and kissed by an unknown American soldier on 14 August 1945.
The picture by Alfred Eisenstaedt was taken as people celebrated Japan's surrender, and it became an iconic image.
The identity of the sailor remains disputed.
Ms Shain died at her home in Los Angeles on Sunday, her family said.

I believe that the soldier in the photo has been indentified as Glenn McDuffie by various sources.

My mother worked in Manhattan back then. She said that whole scene was almost impossible to describe. There was simply universal joy.

WASHINGTON — Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia, a fiery orator versed in the classics and a hard-charging power broker who steered billions of federal dollars to the state of his Depression-era upbringing, died Monday. He was 92.

A spokesman for the family, Jesse Jacobs, said Byrd died peacefully at about 3 a.m. at Inova Hospital in Fairfax, Va. He had been in the hospital since late last week.

I think I had him.

I didnt realize that I had him too. Boy, 92. It just amazes me that anyone would "want" to be working at 92, let alone in politics.

What killed former Red Wings enforcer Bob Probert while he was boating on Lake St. Clair on a hot, steamy afternoon Monday?

That remained a mystery Monday evening.

Probert's father-in-law, Dan Parkinson, and a family friend, Rich Rogow, held a brief news conference at Windsor Regional Hospital.

They said Probert, who turned 45 last month, suffered severe chest pains about 2 p.m. while boating with his wife, children and in-laws. Parkinson, a police officer, performed CPR on Probert. Emergency medical workers reached the scene and transported Probert to the hospital, where he could not be revived.

"Bob lost the fight of his life this afternoon," Parkinson said. "This is a tragedy for the family. We ask that you respect their privacy at this time."

No funeral arrangements were released. Probert, a Windsor native, is survived by his wife and four children.

RIP, Bob Probert. We hated him for years here in Chicago - until he walloped opponents for us. Very good article from Mitch Albom, thanks for sharing, Lilo.

Detroit -- Singer, songwriter and record producer Harvey Fuqua, an early mentor of Marvin Gaye, has died. Fuqua was 80.

Ron Brewington of the Motown Alumni Association says Fuqua died of a heart attack Tuesday at a Detroit hospital.
The Louisville, Ky., native founded the R&B-doo-wop group the Moonglows, which signed with disc jockey Alan Freed. Their first single was the 1954 hit "Sincerely."

Fuqua is credited with discovering the young Gaye in Washington, D.C., taking him to Chicago and Chess Records, and then to Detroit and Motown. He later managed Gaye as well as singer Tammi Terrell, according to Detroit News archives.

Fuqua added Gaye and others in 1958 to a reconstituted group Fuqua called Harvey and the Moonglows. It had the 1958 hit "Ten Commandments of Love."

He started Tri-Phi and Harvey Records in 1961, recording the Spinners, Junior Walker & the All Stars, and Shorty Long.

Motown Records founder Berry Gordy later hired Fuqua to develop recording talent. In 2000, Fuqua and the Moonglows were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

"I'm really grateful and proud and privileged," Fuqua told The News shortly before the induction. "On the other hand I'm thinking, 'What took you guys so long?' "

Since then, he recorded an album, "T.V O.X.: The Voice of Experience," which included a collaboration with Smokey Robinson and blues veteran Etta James, according to News archives.

More recently, Detroit native Jill Gambaro tapped Fuqua for the soundtrack to "Black and White," a film set in 1960s Detroit that was set to begin filming this summer.

La'Verne Washington of the Rhythm & Blues Foundation, a Philadelphia nonprofit dedicated to preserving R&B music where Fuqua was a board member, recalled him as "a great man, a gentleman and an humble individual."

"You would never have known that you were in the presence of a legend, seeing him laugh and make conversational magic with strangers, waiters, waitresses, janitors," Washington said Tuesday night. "If you were an executive or a laborer, he didn't care what station you held in life, he always had a positive word for everyone as he passed through.
