In the world of bullfighting, a bit of cowardice comes at a high cost.

That's a lesson Christian Hernandez learned the hard way Sunday, when, in a bullfight at Mexico City's famed Plaza Mexico, the 22-year-old matador decided to bolt across the ring and leap headfirst over a wall as the bull charged forward. The move drew jeers and whistles from less-than-impressed spectators.

Though he briefly re-appeared in the ring, a humiliated Hernandez was later arrested for breach of contract. According to local media reports, he was released by police after paying a fine.

"There are some things you must be aware of about yourself," the Mexican apprentice matador said in an interview before announcing his retirement. "I didn't have the ability, I didn't have the balls ... this is not my thing."

This is not Hernandez's first brush with infamy in the bullfighting arena. Earlier this year, he was injured after being gored in the leg by a bull.
Brave Sir Christian Ran Away

"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives."
Winter is Coming

Now this is the Law of the Jungleā€”as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
