She was gorgeous. Class personified. It's true, just about that entire generation is gone now .

She's always looked amazing. Always looked younger than her years. I remember way back seeing her movie, Stormy Weather on tv. Sad news. TIS

Frank Frazetta died. I don't know how many people knew of him but he was among the very best, if not the best in his field. There's quite a few books I have bought ONLY because Frazetta did the cover art. He really was that good. I have some calendars and other collections of his work. Frank Frazetta It's weird because I was JUST thinking about him a few days ago. He had a knack for idealized human bodies-especially the female form-and an eye for color and the ability to imply all sorts of emotions through his paintings. He's best known for the Conan stuff but did so much more. Art examples

Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

Guillermo del Toro, the Oscar-nominated co-writer of "Pan's Labyrinth," which he also directed along with the "Hellboy" films, said that Frazetta was nothing less than "an Olympian artist that defined fantasy art for the 20th century." The filmmaker, reached Monday in New Zealand where he is working on a two-film adaptation of "The Hobbit," said Frazetta's influence is difficult to explain to people outside the fantasy world, just as Norman Rockwell would be an elusive figure to define for someone unfamiliar with the U.S. heartland.
"He gave the world a new pantheon of heroes," the filmmaker said by e-mail. "He took the mantle from J. Allen St. John and Joseph Clement Coll and added blood, sweat and sexual power to their legacy.... He somehow created a second narrative layer for every book he ever illustrated."
There were also rock album covers: Molly Hatchet, Nazareth, Yngwie Malmsteen and Wolfmother all tapped into the clanging combat and temptress imagery of Frazetta's easel.
His long, restless career took him into Hollywood work, posters, animation, commercial art and almost every corner of American illustration. The artist's final year had been a wrenching one; his wife and partner, Ellie Frazetta, died in July, setting off a dispute among the Frazetta children about the custody of their ailing patriarch and his art collection, which by some estimates was worth $20 million.
The quarrel reached a bizarre zenith in December when his son Alfonso "Frank Jr." Frazetta used a backhoe to knock down a wall of a small castle-like building that housed much of his father's premium artwork. That building was a mini-museum that sat on the elder Frazetta's farm in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, and the bizarre invasion led to a criminal case, although charges were dropped during a recent settlement among the Frazetta siblings.

I know this posted on another thread, but just in case someone missed it, Dennis Hopper passed away. Boy, I remember so well when Easy Rider came out. Although now dated, it was quite the movie at the time. I learned he was in Rebel Without A Cause only after I saw Easy Rider. I didn't know or remember that he was in True Grit with John Wayne. The attached article cites an interesting tidbit regarding that Wayne movie. After a promising start that included roles in two James Dean films, Hopper's acting career had languished as he developed a reputation for throwing tantrums and abusing alcohol and drugs. On the set of "True Grit," Hopper so angered John Wayne that the star reportedly chased Hopper with a loaded gun. TIS http://www.twmi.rr.com/entertainment/top...Easy_Rider_dies

Betty White is the last Golden Girl left. Rue McLanahan has died.
Golden Girls Star Rue McClanahan Dies at 76 By Charlotte Triggs and Stephen M. Silverman
Update Thursday June 03, 2010 11:45 AM EDT Originally posted Thursday June 03, 2010 11:15 AM EDT Golden Girl Rue McClanahan has died at the age of 76.
"She passed away at 1 a.m. this morning," her manager, Barbara Lawrence, tells PEOPLE. "She had a massive stroke."
McClanahan, who played man-happy Blanche Devereaux on the still-popular '80s sitcom Golden Girls, had suffered a minor stroke earlier this year while recovering from bypass surgery. Lawrence adds that at the time of her death Thursday, McClanahan “had her family with her. She went in peace.”
Still in syndication, Golden Girls ran on NBC from 1985 to 1992. Only last year, McClanahan's costar, Beatrice Arthur, died from cancer. Estelle Getty died in 2008. Surviving star Betty White, 88, is currently enjoying a remarkable resurgence in her career, having recently hosted Saturday Night Live.
Born in Healdton, Okla., Rue lived in six towns by the time she was 8. Her father was a road builder who moved from one project to another. She found solace in acting ("the only thing I ever wanted to do") and after four years at the University of Tulsa moved to New York, where she worked as a part-time file clerk while trying to find jobs in the theater.
Her first job was off Broadway, in 1957, and she finally hit Broadway in 1969. TV work came from soap operas, until she made it on CBS's Maude, starring Beatrice Arthur, starting in 1972. She played Maude's best friend Vivian.
But it was Golden Girls that put her on the map and led to fame, fortune – and several husbands. In all, she had six, including actor Morrow Wilson, whom she wed in 1997 and who survives her, as does a son, Mark Bish, from her first marriage.
As McClanahan told PEOPLE in 1986: "I've always been lucky enough to marry good cooks. One cooked Greek. One cooked Tex-Mex – chili and stuff." Then, with a laugh, she added, "True, one needed a recipe to make a peanut butter sandwich ..."

Too bad. The last time I saw her on tv she seemed well. Strokes are so sudden and fatal. I will always remember her mostly for her role of Blanche On Golden Girls. RIP TIS

damn...i picked the wrong golden girl. is it weird that for the past 3 years one of the golden girls pass away. two years ago it was the really old one, last year bea arthur, and now rue. well anyways RIP. Bam, by the "really old one," I guess you mean Estelle Eetty, because she passed away two years ago. But while she played the oldest part on the show (as Bea Arthur's mother), in real life she was actually younger than both Bea Arthur and Betty White.
