Most scientists don't think we are. But many do think (and I agree) that so-called "intelligent," technologically advanced civilizations are very rare, for a number of reasons. There doesn't seem to have been anything inevitable about human evolution on Earth, although it is possible that had there been no humans something else equally intelligent (or unintelligent!) might have developed. Given that humans haven't had high technology for very long, I think it's likely that other civilizations we might someday make contact with will be far more advanced.

And I must say that if I were an extraterrestrial watching Earth, I'd have no particular desire to reveal myself and my society to humans based on human behavior. In many ways, humanity is an interesting civilization, but not one I'd want to actually contact.
