Being made appears to combine acknowledgement by the family that one has murdered on orders of the family and some form of acceptance into the family whether formal or informal. Vincent's murder of Zasa was on behalf of the family, but was not ordered by the family (Michael). Mike's passing of the torch to Vincent in GFIII was not all that ritualized, but it did suffice. There was nowhere else for Mike to go with the family. Either he passes the torch or keeps the family whichhe didn't want to do anymore.
