Does anyone else love the Savage Nation as much as me?

I woke up this morning with nothing to do and went to bed with only half of it done.

I listen to crazy Mike from time to time just to keep up on his inane exhortations. Of course, you realize that his last name is an adjective.

There was a post/discussion a while back about banks/credit cards and wage garnishments.

Creditors use wage garnishments

Hey there Bam! I was at my daughter's. Her husband and her felt it but I didn't. I was moving around so I think that's why I didn't feel it. They were sitting down. I did see the hanging candles sway back and forth right after though. What surprised me was they announced it was a 6.9 which is quite big.
On my way home however, they upgraded to a 7.2. I believe an 8.0 is considered a massive quake. eek

It centered in Mexico which would affect SolCal (mainly San Diego) mostly. However the local news said that the buildings in San Diego & L.A. were swaying back and forth. To my knowledge, no damage or injuries, thankfully. Since Blib is in NoCal I doubt he felt it.

Whole Foods will no longer accept personal checks in payment. Evidently this is a new corporate wide policy that is being rolled out.

A debit payment is really the same thing, so I don't know why people would bother writing out a check.

Well as a proud check writing Luddite lol I just like using checks to keep track of my expenses and have a record of what was done. Also don't debit cards have POS fees?

I used to love flying kites. It's been awhile, but I still have a nice kite in the basement. Maybe I will bring it out when the grandkids get bigger.

No, they don't. Only if you use them at an ATM machine not owned by your back may you be charged a fee for withdrawing cash. Never a fee for using it as a debit ("credit") card.

A lot of older people seem to like the idea of still being able to write a check. I guess it's because most older people just don't like change.

At any rate, in my neighborhood some of the local bars and grocery stores still cash checks for their regular customers. To tell you the truth, even though it's antiquated, cashing a personal check in a local bar, or deli, on a Sunday, when the banks are closed, almost feels nostalgic. It's a link to the past.

I, for one, hope they never completely do away with paper checks.

It wasn't til I retired that I finally got direct deposit. I would go to the bank to cash my check every month. eek Since I moved and retired, I hardly walk into a bank. I even pay all my bills on line thru my bank's "bill pay". It's so easy and I like it better than having the company take it out. I do it when I want to. Once you get all your debtors info input, you simply put the amount and click pay. No stamps, no mailing. I keep track of what/when I pay thru my checkbook, but each transaction is kept track of on-line too. I can even easily switch money from my savings to checking or vice versa. I really have to ask myself why it took so long.

That being said though, for some reason I still haven't gone paperless, where the statements are sent to me via e-mail. I still have them send me a copy. ohwell I guess I like to have a "physical" copy for my files.

We still won't do direct deposit for one simple reason - what they can deposit, they can also withdraw. I had direct deposit with a job once, and the company paid me my commission check. I gave notice shortly thereafter, and they withdrew the check from my account, claiming they had overstated what they owed me. I had to fight it and wait about three weeks to get repaid. After that, we'll never get direct deposit again.

The Federal Communications Commission does not have the legal authority to slap Net neutrality regulations on Internet providers, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday. A three-judge panel in Washington, D.C. unanimously tossed out the FCC's August 2008 cease and desist order against Comcast, which had taken measures to slow BitTorrent transfers before voluntarily ending them earlier that year.

Because the FCC "has failed to tie its assertion" of regulatory authority to an actual law enacted by Congress, the agency does not have the power to regulate an Internet provider's network management practices, wrote Judge David Tatel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.

After much controversy surrounding a lesbian student who wanted to take her girlfriend to the prom, a special senior prom event, created for her and her date, falls short.

Constance McMillen said she was one of only seven students to show up at a private event chaperoned by school officials last Friday night.

The 18 year old said the rest of her peers went to another private event where she wasn't invited. Her case drew national attention after she and the ACLU challenged the Itawamba County School District's rule that banned same-sex prom dates and a requirement that only male students wear tuxedos.

McMillen wanted to escort her girlfriend to the event and wear a tuxedo.

The ACLU believes the private prom where McMillen was invited was a decoy to keep her from attending the other party.

It's only a big deal in Red States like Mississippi.

As I said, my daughter had a group of friends over to the house for pictures before her prom a few years ago. One of the couples was two girls, and one of them wore a tux. I don't think anyone even blinked.

Evidently Constance's stand was not very popular with her classmates and they don't seem to have missed her presence if pics/statements are any indication.
I don't get the gloating but that's just me. So it goes. ohwell

Yeah we excluded her!
