I just like using checks to keep track of my expenses and have a record of what was done.
So a receipt isn't good enough?

No, they don't. Only if you use them at an ATM machine not owned by your back may you be charged a fee for withdrawing cash. Never a fee for using it as a debit ("credit") card.
