I think the show you're thinking of is Father Murphy.

I didn't know he had passed either.

Wow.... that's a shock.

Graves was one of my first tv favorites as a kid when he starred in "Fury" (a series about a boy and a great horse.... Graves played the boy's father).

Oddly enough, I was just thinking about him, too. The movie, "Them", was on tv the other night and it stars James Arness, Graves' brother.

Oh yea, I forgot about Fury. I loved that show as a kid. smile

I always thought he and his brother "sounded" exactly alike. Their voices are identical,or very very close.

Exactly alike! As I was watching "Them", I would have sworn I was listening to Peter Graves.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. frown That brings my childhood back. I loved Davy Crockett(all us oldies surely remember the song) and Old Yeller was one of my favorite Disney movies. I always thought he was nice looking and had a nice speaking voice. For some reason though, i really thought he was older than what he was.

Anyway, too bad.

I grew up watching Peter Graves on 'Mission Impossible', and enjoyed his narration on the 'Biography' series on A&E during the 90's.

These days, I love to hate a VERY YOUNG Graves as the 'Security Officer' in one of my favorite movies, 'Stalag 17'.

By the way for you locals out there...I heard that radio legend Ron Lundy died this week too.

Strange how there is a tie-in here. The movie, "Them", came out in 1954 and legend has it that Walt Disney watched a preview of the movie. He had been considering offering the role of his new tv show hero, Davey Crockett, to James Arness. Disney watched the movie and wasn't overly impressed by Arness BUT he loved seeing Fess Parker in the movie (a small role). He offered the part of Davey Crockett to Parker, and the rest is history.

Parker had a small role playing a pilot who was hospitalized (they thought he was crazy) because he reported seeing GIANT ants flying in the sky. He probably had only about two minutes worth of screen time.

I had a hand-me-down coonskin cap (from one of the neighbors). By the time I got it a lot of the "fur" was off of it..... it looked more like roadkill on top of my head. I did have a bb gun rifle though (and I didn't shoot my eye out).

He was great as Patricia Heaton's Dad on "Everybody Loves Raymond." He played the "waspy" part well because of his all American boy good looks, but he seemed really down to earth in real life. You guys know how I feel about most Hollywood types (I hate them lol), but he really seemed like a decent fellow smile.
