AMAZING SIMPLE HOME REMEDIES

1. Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold the vegetables while you> chop.

2. Avoid arguments with females about lifting toilet seat by using the sink.

3. For high blood pressure sufferers ~ simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thereby reducing the pressure on your veins. Remember to use a timer.

4. A mouse trap placed on top of the alarm clock will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep by hitting the snooze button.

5. If you have a bad cough, take large doses of laxatives. Then you'll be afraid to cough.

6. You only need two tools in life - WD40 & duct tape. If it won't move and it should, use WD40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

7. If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

DAILY THOUGHT: Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs

Just paid $95 for a plumber visit (thru the home warranty contract I got from the previous home owner) to check out my tankless water heater. Apparently there wasn't much he could do about it because it was installed (very) improperly, and the warranty doesn't include improper installations because I didn't upgrade the contract within the first month. But I can get a new, top-rated one for only about $2800 installed! rolleyes

I think for a while I'll live with the hot water turning cold here and there. ohwell Bad enough my ice maker went a few weeks ago and still have to call Sears about that. (Fridges aren't included in the contract w/o an upgrade either!). And water (from frozen gutters) was dripping from a kitchen window that I planned to replace in the Spring anyway (4 windows actually). And I'm sure there are other things I'm not thinking of.

Plumbers cost an arm and a leg. When I moved to my condo (3 yrs ago), all my appliances were new. My dishwasher gets very little use because I don't use it jut for me. However, I noticed it had a small leak. At the end of each cycle there was just a little water on the floor. Plus, my "new" oven door came off, with the glass part totally detaching from the door. eek I know nothing about these things. I ended up having to buy a new gasket for the dishwasher which is a Bosch and evidently, the part was out of the country or something. Anyway, cost me $350 for the gasket and to fix the oven door. mad I should have gotten a new dishwasher for that price.

I think I'll marry a handyman/plumber next time around. I'll save a bundle. Just think a man that knows his way around a workbench. lol Has it's advantages. LOL

$2800 for a hot water heater????????? Holy crap! I got a brand new furnace AND hot water heater (60 gallon) installed for $5500 a few years ago. Either prices have really gone up or you're getting ripped off.

Sears is a rip-off, Geoff. I bought a new garage door opener from them. It broke twice within three years, and I had to get a new one, because the second repair would have meant that I'd spent as much to repair it as it would to buy a new one. One of my coworkers spent several hundred with Sears last winter to get his furnace repaired. Guess what? He ended up buying a new furnace this winter!

Edit: Welcome to home-ownership! smile

Well, of course he wanted to sell me the top-of-the-line, and that also includes installation. I have to get a tankless system as there's no room for a tank anywhere any more. Seems Home Depot is selling them for around $800-1200 for the unit itself w/o installation (the previous owner paid $770 for this one, but totally hacked the installation).

I was only thinking Sears service because it's a Kenmore fridge. I'll get estimates from them and also a local appliance business and see.

I don't know much about hot water heaters, but I've had to purchase a couple in my lifetime and I never paid that much. I think maybe installed $300 or so. And that price includes a metal strap required in in CA for earthquake protection. But damn!!! eek Maybe you have an extra big, extra good hot water heater. That's an awful huge price.

TIS, it's a tankless system that hangs on the wall and can fit in a closet. Ironically, it's supposed to save you money since it doesn't have to keep 50 gallons of water heated at all times (it heats it up as you need it).

Does it look like one of those old fashioned toilet tanks attached to the wall, that you can hide a gun behind? wink

BUENA PARK, Calif. - Even as the American economy shows tentative signs of a rebound, the human toll of the recession continues to mount, with millions of Americans remaining out of work, out of savings and nearing the end of their unemployment benefits.

Economists fear that the nascent recovery will leave more people behind than in past recessions, failing to create jobs in sufficient numbers to absorb the record-setting ranks of the long-term unemployed.

Call them the new poor: people long accustomed to the comforts of middle-class life who are now relying on public assistance for the first time in their lives — potentially for years to come.

This is really scary stuff. It will be a drag on any recovery.
Companies are still moving more work overseas. People with jobs are going to cut spending, worried they might be next and also will be under pressure to help laid off relatives.
