A promise, by definition, is binding. It doesn't "depend" on what you promise. A promise is a promise.

And I'm not so rigid to believe that people can't make mistakes. But I do believe that if you make a promise, you need to do your best to keep that promise. Does it mean that you might not be able to? Sure. However, having unprotected sex with your mistress, then trying to pass off your child as the child of your employee, is a bit different than someone who makes a simple mistake.
