Honestly, I never heard of either of these people until now. BUT, my prediction IF Brown wins.....The Republicans will have their leader (well besides Rush). He'll be their new hero and will be played up by not only the Republicans but by the media as well. Let's face it. They need someone and this would be their opportunity.

I heard them bashing Coakley this morning because she said that Curt Schilling was a Yankees fan. This proves that she's "out of touch".

I agree with those that say that Coakley is abrasive. While I'm a democrat, who has crossed party lines before, I have to say that I believe that Brownwould make the better senator.

Same here. I consider myself a free thinking Democrat, and I, too, have voted Republican on more than one occasion. The more I read about this woman, the more I'd be inclined to vote for Brown if I lived in Massachusetts.

If Coakley loses we libs need to declare today a holiday much like Guy Fawkes Day in England.

She is a complete disgrace. She ran as if she had the right to the seat, and apparently does not like going out and meeting people. Ted Kennedy, who once said he approached every Senate race as if he would lose, is rolling over in his grave.

I don't know if anyone has yet posted this. As a Democrat, I feel disgraced by it. Such statements as this one are damn stupid and do not serve (in fact, work against) the Democratic Party and the people:

She's an ass, so this disgraces him? Was this the best candidate the Dems could come up with?? This woman was supposed to fill Ted Kennedy's shoes? Puh-leeze.

I don't think it means as much as some state. Afterall, Mass has elected several Republican governors over the years. However, it is an embarrassment for the President since he put his political prestige on the line. But I do think that there are alot of Dems who are not listening to the people. As a result of this upset, the Dems have lost their filbuster proof majority, but they still can generate 59 votes in the Senate and have a huge majority in the House. I think the President needs to concede some health care reform changes requested byt he Reps and concentrate on the economy.

Oli, I think this is a big deal. A Rep. taking a seat away that was A demacratic seat for 30+ years.

All those years Mass. voters cast their votes for Kennedy, not for the seat. Kennedy could have won reelection even as a Republican. Since about 1950, Mass. has elected 9 Republican governors and don't forget that Mitt Romney was the latest. Mass. has more of a Republican history than many people realize.

Well that was a buttkicking. Perhaps this will liberate the Dems to quit trying to play nice with people that don't want them to succeed. Because now if the Republicans stick together they can block most legislation they don't like.

And if there's one thing that Republicans do well, it's stick together.

On the other hand I still think that it is very early-too early to say that Obama is on his way to being a one term Pres. But this is definitely like a bad performance review before the final end of year review. The President must take heed and course correct.

And according to Weiner and Stupak, there is not support in the House to pass the Senate version of health care legislation. We shall see.

In the WSJ Lanny Davis blames the left wing of the Democratic party for the Massachusetts loss. This is curious since the health care bill is quite unpopular with the left wing but quite popular with the sort of centrist corporate Democrats with whom Davis identifies. And how it's the left wing's fault that independents rejected Coakley is also logic I can't follow.

Jim Webb (Va.) has made a statement which supports postponing the healthcare vote until the Senator Elect Brown is sworn in. I wonder if Obama will view this as a bit of a defection on Webb's part?

I saw Senator Elect Brown interviewed on the news today. He seems like a reasonable and independent thinker.

I basically no nothing about him. The two most talked about so far are:

1. His naked playboy (or like playboy) shot (forgot what magazine) He doesn't look bad though.

2. Some interview where they are talking about,it seems, unwed mothers or such. The comment was made about Obama's mom having Obama so young (17 & or 18) and the lady commentator says " and she was married" and Brown says, "I don't know about that" as though he had doubts or wanted to create doubts that they were married.

Now that he won, I have no doubts we'll learn much much more.

Not enough leadership

A problem with Obama's style is that he really doesn't appear to like to sanction people that oppose him. He seems to be conflict-averse. I've known successful leaders like that but the problem is that if you get a reputation for being like that not only do your rivals and enemies have no fear of opposing you but your supporters also lose any trepidation that they may have had about contradicting you or questioning your leadership. Thus Weiner's and Webb's statements. Also as politicians they have to read the tea leaves and ensure that their own re-elections are safe. That's their primary interest.

But as I keep saying it is still really early. If this were a seventies Kung-fu movie this would (HOPEFULLY) be the point where after having got his behind kicked by the big bad dude, the hero disappears into the forest to undergo special training. He then reappears, having mastered the esoteric "Tiger Style", and proceeds to methodically take apart all of his enemies.

Does Obama have it in him? We'll see...

I did see that interview but I don't know when it occurred. If it occured during the campaign that would have been a perfect time for Obama or more likely Gibbs to get really offended about any negative implications about Obama's mother (I mean who lets anyone talk greasy about their MOM?) and perhaps put Brown on the defensive and spend time and energy defending that comment.
