I remember those days very very well. I know it sounds like an ol' geezer story, but I remember walking to school every morning rain/shine. Warm coats, scarves, gloves. I hated going outside and feeling that cold go right to your bones. eek My sister and I went to Catholic school and it was about 1 mile or more away from home. Luckily my grandmother's house was on the way, and most of the freezing days, we'd detour there and have my dad pick us up on his way home from work.

It's funny because I wouldn't have thought of having my kids walk that far to school when they were young. Yet, it was not uncommon then.
