People always say how crappy the Godfather Part III is. I personally liked this film and found out recently it was nominated for 7 academy awards including Best Picture, Director, Cinemotgrapher, Actor, Supporting Actor, and a couple more. I understand this did not live up to the first two films, but still 7 Academny Award nominations, especially the big awards like picture and director, definately means this film was not horrible. Even though it didn't actually win any, 7 nominations is extremely good.

Yeah, Part III WAS nominated for 7 Academy Awards, but Best Actor was not one of them (Al Pacino did deliver a very good performance though). And I think Andy Garcia was excellent as well and he was nominated. Just because a film in nominated for several awards does not mean it is a great film. I disagree with the Academy all the time. And a lot of movies I love were not nominated for any awards. But Part III was a good film for me. Be your own judge.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that since it was nominated for 7 awards means its an amazing movie, I'm just saying that no movie nominated for 7 oscars is utter crap like so many believe.

Imagine if Godfather III did win Best Picture... The first ever oscar-winning trilogy in history.
yet some awards were won, and they weren't too glamorous
Sofia Coppolia getting the Razzie for worst actress is kinda justified

Additionally, even a film that happens to get the Best Picture Oscar is not always necessarily the best movie made that year. Academy members just voted in the popular direction. Recent cases in point...other nominees were far superior to these 'Best Picture' winners: Forrest Gump (Shawshank Redemption) Titanic (all 4 of the other nominated films) The English Patient (Fargo) Apple

Al Pacino was nominated for his villain role in Warren Beatty's "Dick Tracy" in 1990, and, personally, I thought he deserved it a lot more for The Godfather, Part III. And I'm also proud to call The Godfather, Part III a great film, even if it doesn't live up to the first two.
And Adrien Brody's win over Daniel Day and others might've been for the fact that he really gave up a lot just for the role. He sold his apartment, car, and lived by only eating small food, like eggs. And of course he learned to master playing the piano.

Whatever Adrien Brody did for that role...it resulted in the astounding performance he gave in that film. And I don't give a hoot about Daniel Day Lewis, Jack Nicholson, Nicolas Cage and whoever the fifth nominee was, Brody got that Oscar because he DESERVED to win it. And he also deserved the standing ovation because as a virtual unknown he accomplished a great deal in winning over all those well established stars. Apple

Apple, I never said I didn't like Polanski's "the Pianist," nor Adrien Brody's performance (though frankly I do prefer Roman's work in "Chinatown", but that's just me nitpicking). I thought it was very, very good coming from a practical unknown. Though I did like Daniel Day's a bit more (and Nicholas Cage did the best work of his career in Spike Jonze's "Adaptation"), Brody still looked good to win the award. To add to that, all of the nominees had already won an Oscar (Nicholson won three!), so Brody had good chances of winning the award. The only bad thing about his winning is the fact he may never be able to do any other sucessful movie again without someone bringing up his work in the Pianist as Wladyslaw Szpilman.

Possibly. There have been many cases where an actor or actress happens to win an Academy Award for the performance of a lifetime and then never quite lives up to that standard in their post-Oscar work. But that remains to be seen. And in the case of people like Brody this may have been his one & only chance for an Oscar and he did deserve it. So I don't think we (or he) should lament just yet that winning may have been a 'bad' thing. Apple

I first saw THE UNKNOWN on TCM about a year and a half ago. Usually I don't have the patience to sit through a silent film but something about this one kept me watching right to the end. That 'something' was most likely the GREAT Lon Chaney himself! Anyway...carry on! Apple

I didn't say people can't disagree, I'm saying that a movie nominated for not just one or two minor oscars, but 7 including a few big ones, is not complete and utter crap. Even if you don't personally like the film you can respect it for being a well done movie you just didn't like. For example Schindler's List I found to be done extremely well, but for some reason the liking of the story just didn't click with me. Though, I respect it for being done so well.
