Speaking of hunting, our doe season ends Saturday, and reports indicate the hunters will fall short of the 300,000 deer that game officials had anticipated.

This morning while I was gathering up recycables that had blown into our backyard from the front curb, I happened to gaze into the wetlands and saw seven doe, looking at me like I was crazy. It would have made a nice Christmas card as a little snow was softly falling as they trotted off.

My brother was talking to his mechanic. The guy is an avid hunter. He told my brother that his daughter got her first doe this year. His daughter is eight. I don't trust my kids not to break the vacuum. I can't imagine them with a rifle or a shotgun, or whatever it is you use.

Good for her. Too bad she didn't get a buck. She could've put the antlers on her wall. I don't know about in NY but here you have to take a gun safety course before you can get your license to hunt.

There's something wrong about an 8 year old going out to hunt. When I was 8 I saw "Bambi" and cried my eyes out when his mother died.

What's wrong with a child wanting to hunt? As long as the child is responsible and has been taught about guns and gun safety. The Col got his first gun when he was 8 years old.

When my son took his gun safety course there were alot of kids in the class. Matter of fact there were more girls than boys.

I have no problem with hunting, as long as the hunter eats what they kill. The deer population is out of control as it is, so if someone wants to hunt and eat venison, good for them. I'm with SC, though. I think eight is too young for any child to be handling a gun, I don't care if they're male or female. It's a grave responsibility, and I think an eight year old is not mature enough to understand the potential consequences.

Depends on what part of the country you're talking about. In some areas, they start marrying at 8 (even if it's to their own sibling) so why not start 'em off right and teach them to shoot something that is living?

I put a new Winter wreath up this year. My SIL got the Col a wreath made with antlers pine cones and pine needles.

I'm DONE shopping. I wrapped my last present today. I also made and sent out 31 Christmas cards. I love making greeting cards.
