I moved end of September; called them to get my landline "service" deactivated from the apartment (they said 10/2) and activated at my new place as of (they said) 10/7. That's well over 2 months go! I haven't been missing it at all since I never use it; I only just wanted to keep the number since I've had it for many, many years -- but at this point I don't really care.

I sent them an email the other day saying, basically, either cancel my service and pay what you think I own (2 months, now 3!); or, pay what you think I owe you, and give me a reduced rate (over $55/month for landline I don't even use??).

Got a reply saying they're transferring it to the Repair department. That was 5 days ago, and still no dial tone. I replied and reiterated that either way, I have NO intention of paying for the past 2 months (for services not rendered), and that at this point, to just cancel the effing thing.

Then I got an automated email telling me my next bill is due.

Eff Verizon!!

Jersey should have a public service commission that you can call for an issue like this.

I may have to look into that if this goes on, thanks. My bill is up to almost $200 now -- for absolutely nothing!

Ironically, tho, I'm on their side in this "maps" duel between them and AT&T (which I have, even well before my iPhone). AT&T got offended because Verizon compared their 3G coverage maps in commercials (and AT&T couldn't compete at all; not even close) so then AT&T brings out a Baldwin to "show" how much coverage T has -- but they include all cell coverage, not 3G coverage. What a joke! lol

It's almost 2010, isn't it? The great benefit I see in email is that you have a solid record of what was said and when. It may take longer, and it may require a real call follow-up, but the paper(less) trail is there forever.

If you were outdoors with nothing but a household freezer, how cold would it have to be before you would want to lock yourself inside the freezer for "warmth"?

Combining the fahrenheit and celsius equations, it would take me 32 minutes of 0° before I jumped into the freezer.

It's cold for here. I don't want to make it sound like it's miserable though when I know it gets way colder on a daily basis for most of everyone else on here. I'm just not used to it.

Grocery store customers that take full baskets to the self-serve stands should be arrested and severely punished.

My high school teachers didn't do things like this. I think I would have remembered something like this..

My son has just had 3 friends from school over for tea. That makes 7 kids in total at the table. Talk about a cacophony of noise.......

Several if not most Board members have kids some of which may be in college. So, I'd like your take on the following:

I scheduled make-up exams for the week before final exams week in the College's Testing Center (the last exam was October 28). This is stated in the class syllabus plus I stated it in class several times during the semester and in class durng the weeks before Thanksgiving and called out the names of students who did not take an exam when it was first scheduled. Also, the College publishes the academic schedule in its schedule of classes and I held a review for the final exam last week (the final is tonight). On October 14 and November 8 I posted announcements on the class's website about make-ups.

Question: at this point, ten (10) students failed to take their make-up exams last week. Should I tell them "tough" or something similar or should I let them take their make-ups?

I asked my daughter, who is a college student. She said, "Fail them, unless they have a legitimate health reason for not showing up." She said that she's sick and tired of the kids who screw around all semester, then cry to the professor at the end, and are given another chance. She works hard for her GPA (something I honestly never thought I'd be saying based on her high school performance) and feels that you either have to reward the students who did their work on time with something extra, or punish the ones who didn't. College is supposed to be the real world. No boss is going to put up with that kind of crap.

We put our tree up tonight and plugged up the lights to see if they work and of course they don't. So I'll be going to Wally World and buy a couple sets.
