Microsoft Office to go online — for free

The last version of Office didn’t include a free online version. The next one will. It’s too early to say Microsoft has checkmated Google in online documents – the latest version of Office hasn’t shipped yet. But the sleeping giant in Redmond has clearly woken up to the Internet threat.

Get this: Microsoft – the king of paid software – will announce today that it is going to give a version of Office away for free online. Both the online and desktop versions are scheduled to arrive in the first half of next year. Yes, you read that right. The latest version of its ubiquitous productivity software, dubbed Office 2010, will come as both a piece of software you can buy for your computer, and as a service you can access in your browser. [UPDATE: Microsoft says it will support the Firefox and Safari browsers as well as IE.]

Btw, I have IE 7 and lately every time I log on I get a "do I want to update to IE8. I assume it's okay to do so no? If I do, it won't mess anything up right? What's better about it, if any of you now? :confused

Thanks

These resealable bags of cold cuts drive me crazy. What do I care if the bag is resealable if I can't get it open in the first place?

How can my signature art just disappear? Has anyone seen my Chicago Outfit/Meatball Mark signature art any where? Seriously...Santino Brasi hooked me up with some great artwork and now it's gone.

This is so totally off the wall. My daughter took her kids to the local libraray to check out about a dozen books (she likes them to do some reading during the summer). They each picked out books (one is 7 and one 5).

Yesterday, I was over her house and she was going thru the books they picked. LOL.....one of them was titled "Walter the Farting Dog." LMAO lol The five year old picked it out but she hasn't started school yet, and although she's learning to read, I believe she didn't know the title, but was ingtrigued by the picture or something. Anyway, I am surprised a library has such a book but can't help but laugh my ass off. lol

How ironic...laugh your ass off about a farting frog. ha ha.

I think that's cute. Maybe it teaches kids early about different foods that give you gas.

How about a book about "Vera.....the menopausal lizard". haha.

Or Godzilla, the menstruating T-Rex who "periodically" ravages people and places?

Oh wait ... I forget that we already have that.

My eldest boy,Michael, won Sportsman of the Year in his end of year school assembly. He took part in the football, rugby, cricket, rounders, hockey and athletics teams, captaining 3 of them!

Very, very proud of him. This is his last year in primary school, next year he goes to High School where he will have to prove himself again all over. He can't wait smile

Congrats, Yogi!!

TIS, my daughter's favorite book when she was little was about a talking bone. The bone became the friend of a pig named Pearl (who dressed very well, with dress, gloves and hat). First the bone scares off robbers with guns, and they both got kidnapped by a wolf who couldn't wait to kill and eat Pearl. Frankly, it scared the hell out of me, but she loved it.

When Joey Trebbiani bought his girlfriend a copy of her favorite childrens book, "The Velveteen Rabbit," he told her it was because, "I know you like rabbits and I know you like cheese." lol

Not sure if boys are supposed to have favorite children's books, but I do remember reading "The Hardy Boys." Then I started reading John D. Macdonald novels when I was about 12 years old (the Travis McGee serial novels). Hardly children's books, but they kinda stand out when I think about my early reading.

I collected all 55 of the Nancy Drew series when I was a kid. Those, along with "The Little House" and "Anne of Green Gable" series were my favorites when I was a kid. And, naturally, "Little Women". Oh, I loved that book! I remember being so angry when Jo turned down Laurie! I wanted to marry him!

I read that Paul McCartney gave a surprise performance from the rooftop of the Ed Sullivan Theater in NY yesterday. Sounds pretty cool.

Is that in honor of Gary Coleman's famous line "Whatchoo talking about, Willis?" wink

I'm doing great, TIS. The family and I had an incredible week from 7/5/ to 7/12 vacationing 2 houses away from Lake Erie. We had a blast - plenty of fun things to do for the kids and adults. We rented a house that allowed us to have a variety of friends/family stay with us throughout the week. I tell you it was the most relaxed I have ever been returning to work.

The 1st pic is from our driveway to show how close we were to the water

The 2nd pic is of the sunset from our backporch

The last pic is the front of the house we stayed in (Geneva, OH)

Great pics Goombah! My kids have not seen Lake Michigan (or any of the great lakes) and it's hard to explain to them how it's NOT exactly like the ocean.

Beautiful sunset view and the house looks so homey, like a Walton type home. Glad you had a good time. You will never forget these "family" vacations. As your kids grow, the time will come too soon when they look a little more forward to being with their friends than with the parents on a family vacation. These family memories stay forever though. Enjoy.

We also lucked out with the weather. The week leading up to the 4th of July (prior to our arrival), it was in the 60s a few days and rained 4 days consecutively. The week we were there, the temps were in the 70s-80s the entire time, and it rained for about 3 hours on one day only. Could not have asked for any better weather.

My kids, ages 3 and 5, have already been on 3 great vacations at this point in their lives. My wife and I combined were not on such nice trips as kids and probably not until we got married. It's great to be able to have the kids experience different areas of the country and just see how people live outside of their hometown.

I'm happy to hear that you had a good, relaxing vacation, goombah! Looks like pretty country up there.

TIS, didn't you ever take the girls back home and see the lakes?
