(CNN) — Pennsylvania Republican Tom Ridge is taking direct aim at Rush Limbaugh, telling CNN's John King the conservative talk radio host can be "shrill" and uses language in a way "that offend very many."

"Rush Limbaugh has an audience of 20 million people. A lot of people listen daily to him and live by every word. But words mean things and how you use words is very important," Ridge, the former Homeland Security Secretary under President Bush, said during an interview airing Sunday on CNN's State of The Union.

"It does get the base all fired up and he's got a strong following," Ridge continued. "But personally, if he would listen to me and I doubt if he would, the notion is express yourself but let's respect others opinions and let's not be divisive."

The comments come in the wake of a war of words between Limbaugh and Colin Powell, during which the former secretary of state suggested the GOP's future was in peril if it went in the direction of the popular radio talker. Limbaugh quickly hit back, proclaiming Powell is part of the "stale, the old, the worn-out GOP that never won anything."

I always remember my grandma saying to us kids; "Always wear clean underwear - you never know when you will be in an accident." I am told the meaning is if you are in a car accident or something and you are taken to the ER, it would be embarrassing if you had dirty underwear. Hello, grandma - people usually soil themselves in an accident anyway! I loved my nonna!

I remember a phrase my dad would use referring to those who drank too much. I always thought it was lame and really, as a young girl, never knew what it meant. He'd tell me to think about the meaning. As time went on, I think I finally got it. I don't know where he heard it or if it's a well known phrase or not, but it goes like this:

"You can tell the one who boozes, by the company he chooses...and the pig got up and walked away."

Even a pig doesn't want to be in their company?


Another variation of "be careful what you wish for" phrase.

My father tells me that my grandfather, who had both my dad and uncle in the service at the same time said, "I only wish to live long enough to see both my sons come home." Sadly, it was literally days after the last sone came home, he died at 52 of a heart attack. My grandmother would always tell my dand and uncle "be careful how you wish for things." Can you imagine? I never knew my grandfather unfortunately.


There are also some old Italian phrases I can't think of right now. Many don't translate well into English, but I'll see if I can think of a couple.

I can't remember it in Italian, but my Dad told me about something his mother would say to him when she would get somewhat upset with him:

"I'm going to make you eat bread with your teeth."

My beloved grandmother,who is an awesome 98 years old, is in hospital. She fell and bashed herself up pretty bad. Broke her glasses,cut her face,blacked both eyes,broke some ribs....

She is in hospital on oxygen and the doctors say she is unlikely to come out....

She has had bad spells before and always comes round but it must be pretty hard to fight back at 98

Spare a thought and a prayer for her please guys?

Oh man. I'm so sorry Yogi. She definitely is in my thoughts and prayers.

Just think. She lived and loved a lot in those 98 years. So that's a lifetime of happiness she brought to you. I just hope she's not in any pain.

Wow, 98. God bless her. Sometimes we tend to underestimate the strength of someone so old. My now deceased great grandmother was 92 when she slipped and broke her hip. To all of our amazment,this lady healed very nicely and continued to walk in our church's yearly festival. Good luck to her.

Sorry about your grandmother, Yogi. I'm certainly pulling for a fast recovery for her. She sounds like a pistol. My grandmother turned 95 last week. She's in reasonably good health, thank God.

Thanks folks. She is still in hospital but has stabilised a bit. She refuses to take oxygen. Every time the nurse leaves her she rips the mask off. Stubborn old bugger what she is!

She will not be able to go home though. It will be a care home for her unfortuneatley,something she has always said she didn't want,but if she keeps taking tumbles it is the only option

It must be very hard for her to give up her independence, Yogi. Hope she gets settled in a place she likes.

Babe,i think she would be uncomfortable in any care facility to be honest. We will have to see i suppose. Like i said before,she can't be left alone so is going to have to go somewhere!
