I used the NYS program that provides you with two weeks worth of free patches, gum or lozenges, then bought more patches. The patch definitely worked for me, although I've heard of people who didn't have a good experience with it. The website also offered tips, and you could call the hotline any time to speak with a counselor if you were having a particularly rough time. They also called to see how I was doing.

We went out to brunch with some of my coworkers a few weeks ago. It was a particularly raw, damp and nasty day. I saw all the smokers huddled outside and was very happy to have quit.
