Well TIS, the election is over, the economic news is depressing, and a bad winter does have it's negative effects. Thanks, so the way it works out we really only paid $8 for our bottles and I used the money from that and some diapers I returned (We're only using Huggies because my wife and her sisters were all allergic to anything but, and someone had bought us Pampers) and I took Molly on a little shopping spree.

She got a little stuffed Lion, a set of booties and mitts for 98 cents, a nice dress, and some diaper wipes. She made out like a bandit.

Every time I read about LN's baby-on-the-way and the rest of you talk about what a joy it is to have children, I wonder if I'm missing out on life. I'm happy with my life, and I love my step kids as much as possible without having that father/child bond.

But I've come to realize that being a step parent is nearly impossible because, when it comes to disciplining the children, the issue of "You're not my dad" or "They're not your kids, they're mine" comes up. And I'm not talking about spanking or any kind of physical discipline. What I mean is talking to them about what they did wrong, or yelling at them because they did something like nearly burn the house down. If I was their biological father I wouldn't get those type of responses.

However, if I take the approach of standing back and letting their Mom handle business I get the lecture about not doing enough to help.

Don't even get me started about celebrating Father's Day.

Blib, You're not exactly old. If you want to have a baby, there's nothing stopping you (aside from the fact that you don't actually become impregnated, carry the baby and then give birth). I'm sure that being a step-parent is very difficult. There must be about 50 fine lines to straddle on a daily basis. It sounds like you and your girlfriend need to have a private talk about your role.

The one thing that my husband and I agreed on is that we would never disagree about discipline in front of the children. If I think he's being an ass, or he thinks I'm being a bitch, we'll discuss it in private, but never in front of the girls. They would attempt to divide and conquer immediately.
