I have no explanation other than perhaps Mrs. Roth was in the dark about what business her husband had chosen and nobody wanted her to know he was meeting with the notorious Michael Corleone.
Incidentally, was Roth's wife with him at the airport? I don't remember her being there, but you would think she should have been.
