Do you have any idea how lucky you are not to have tickets up the wazoo, Geoff?? Geez!!
No kidding. I let my inspection sticker expire two years ago and I got a ticket within a few days (the county cops drive by slowly and look at every car's stickers when they're in danger of not making their monthly quota of tickets).
