$.29....when I started driving in 1966. I remember going to college as a freshmen and getting $.35 worth of gas, which was all the money I had. eek

Back in the 80's when I got my license and had no money, I used to buy $2 worth. But that would buy a couple of gallons.

Likewise, during my freshman year in college (in Peoria) the local gas stations had price wars and they were charging 29¢ for a long time.

One of the guys in the dorm had a car and we'd pile five guys in it, chip in 25¢ each and cruise the main drag all night long.

Those days are long gone, obviously. Now I try to hold my driving down to bare necessary trips (although the price here continues to drop - lowest price I've seen is $3.05).

Hey! how come it's so much more here? $3.19 - $3.37 in my general area. confused It's gone down though. I have noticed a difference.

$3.07 this morning, which is as low as I've seen it in over a year.

Well TIS and PB, wherever you are, God must be punishing you for something. It would be better for you two to confess. As Cardinal Lamberto said; "It is the pocketbook that suffers."

I'm actually happy paying $3.07. I guess that was their psychology all along. lol

Yes. When you're a teenager with $10 in your wallet, it was a lot. But hey, it wasn't that long ago. I see people putting $5 in their tanks nowadays, and that buys less than $2 did in the 80's. tongue

I paid $2.48 this morning in NJ, and it's now under $3 on SI.

Checking gas buddy for my zip code it ranges anywhere from the lowest ($2.97) to the highest ($3.29). Right in my area it's $3.15. Better than it's been, but still too high. ohwell

The local price is now $2.85, coincidentally the same price as it was one year ago today.

The price has dropped 85¢ in the last month (23¢ in the last week alone). That price decrease is faster than it increased last year.

My prediction: the prices will continue to drop until Election Day.

BTW: Exxon will announce it's quarterly profits on Thursday.

Dunno, but it's interesting to note a few states' rate change over the last year. The "battleground" states in the upcoming election are seeing a much larger difference (i.e. lower prices) in what they are paying now compared to one year ago. Here are a few examples:

  • Ohio - Cleveland is 45¢ cheaper; Cincinnati is 59¢ cheaper
  • Colorado - Denver 26¢ cheaper; Colorado Springs 29¢ cheaper
  • Florida - Jacksonville 36¢ less; Orlando is 24¢ cheaper
  • Indiana - Gary is 16¢ cheaper; Terre Haute is 36¢ cheaper
  • Missouri - Springfield is 50¢ lower; Independence is 72¢ less
  • Virginia - Both Norfolk and Portsmouth are 49¢ lower

Interestingly, some of the states that have been given up on (by the Republicans) have shown either no change or the prices have actually gone up in the past year. Some examples:

  • California - San Francisco is up 40¢; San Diego up 15¢
  • Illinois - Chicago is up 14¢
  • New York - my local prices are the same as last year at this date

Dunno what to make of this, but it's interesting.

I agree SC with you. After the election, and I don't care who gets in office, the gas prices will start to rise again.

That is my prediction.

Ya know, now that you mention it, I think I saw Barack Obama on the grassy knoll in Dallas. OK, so he was only two years old at the time, but, hey, you never know.

He couldn't have 'cause everyone would have been pointing at him saying "Hey, it's Barack Obama, the future President of the United States."

But he was shooting Adriana LaCerva.

Looks like you'll get to under $2.00/gallon.

BP,our petrol giants, have just announced quarterly profits of 1.6 billion pounds! So it easy for me to see that things must be awful for them in the recession whistle
