South Jersey has been hot and humid this week and today we're suppose to have afternoon thunderstorms that will continue into tomorrow. The unusual thing here is the cold ocean water. Yesterday it was 59 degrees; about 8-10 degrees colder than normal. The reason is the prevailing winds have been southwest/west. This blows the warm surface water out to sea and the cold water comes up from the bottom. This action is called upwelling. This past weekend the water was a little warmer - 65, but it dropped back to the 50s. Shrinkage.
