Hello All , Brand new member if this as been disscussed befor please forgive me .
After the marriage between connie and carlo , Tom and vito discuss carlo,s future as part of the family buisness , What i find strange is, as the godfathers advisor when Tom suggests giving carlo something important in the family buisness hes strongly rebuffed by vito saying no , give him a living only . so why have Tom as his advisor only to ignor his advise or also why did Tom think that vito would want carlo in the family buisness , how could such partners be so wide apart about a person .

I've always thought that Vito saw SOMETHING in Carlo that he didn't like, and that was part of his "greatness" (judging people). It wasn't only Tom who was fooled - remember that it was Sonny who introduced Carlo to Connie.

The novel explains Vito's "sight" in some detail... Carlo had been given a "book" (a betting parlor) as his living, but he nearly ran it into the ground through bad management. We're led to believe that Carlo married Connie solely as what he saw as an easy living.

Welcome to the boards, head.

Tom didn't suggest that Vito give Carlo something important. He asked, "Should we give your new son-in-law something important in the family?" That's a big difference. Tom was doing his duty as consigliere: asking his boss if he wanted to bestow a favor on a new family member. He wasn't offering an opinion about Carlo's merits. He probably knew Carlo wasn't worth anything important, and was relieved that Vito said, "Never!"

In a deleted scene, Vito tells Tom that he was upset with Carlo because of Carlo's demeaning treatment of Manolo. Vito and Manolo went way back and Vito considered any mistreatment of Manolo as a mistreatment of him.

Yes olivant, I always thought Manolo's overall presence in the film was astounding, The depth of is character, also superb

He - (Simón Bolívar) - was shaken by the overwhelming revelation that the headlong race between his misfortunes and his dreams was at that moment reaching the finishing line. The rest was darkness. "Damn it," He sighed. "How will I ever get out of this labyrinth!"

So what’s the labyrinth?

That’s the mystery isn’t it? Is the labyrinth living or dying? Which is he trying to escape - the world, or, the end of it?

Yes, and throughout the Trilogy. We often overlook the subtle characters that contribute so much to a film's quality. Why he never got the best supporting Oscar escapes me.

Same here, I have been plagued by that for a long time
