"No, I'll wait".

This line has never made any sense to me. Sollozzo tells Sonny not to lose his temper, so Sonny assures him that "he'll wait". Wait for what? Permission? Why would him saying this give Sollozzo assurances Sonny wouldn't do anything. It just seems out of place.
