10 days has gone by since the last GAS post. We must be getting used to the prices, huh?

Today: National average $3.98 a gallon
One Year Ago: $2.80 (and in January 2007, I paid $1.89 one day).

What happened in one year to justify this amount of increase?
Did one third of the world's oil fields dry up? NO. Was there a major war in an oil producing country? NO. Was there a hurricane that affected oil production? NO. Was there artificial price inflation from commodity speculators? Was there government malaise? Were oil companies making obscene profits?
