Hackman has disappointed me lately. He's such a good actor and hasn't worked much recently (or at least hasn't picked good roles). The only thing I think he did that was worthwhile in the last dozen years, or so, was playing the lawyer in "Runaway Jury".
Hackman is amazing in
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001). I think it's a very good and interesting role at the least. One of the best comedic performances I've seen in the past twenty five years or so. Right up there with his absolute best--
Night Moves,
The Conversation,
Scarecrow (among many). His performance in
Heist (2001) is nothing short of worthwhile and solid.
