Under normal circumstances, I would have taken him. But coming back from injury, you're right.

Yup. But normally he the only "sure thing" every week, especially in the "Majors".

I really feel stupid (more than normal)... I didn't realize this week was the Open. I still would not have gone with Tiger (as good as he is in majors, he's still recovering from surgery) but I would have gone with Mickelson. ohwell

My team kina sucked too in Round 1. It must be a tough course.
4 golfers, 72 holes, 8 Birdies, 15 bogeys, 5 double bogeys. sick

WTF is with this "Par 71" Torrey Pines South?? Don't you think there just *may* be a problem with it when those shooting +14 in a Major make the cut????? rolleyes

I played Wii Golf for the first time yesterday visiting my nephew. It's fun! But it takes some coordination (which I usually lack), but I definitely wanna get a Wii. I shot a +22 in the first 4 holes just trying to figure out the buttons. blush lol

Par 71, and the course is over 7,600 yards. Some of the par 4's are over 500 yards.

Mickelson got a "9" on the 13th today. That must have been an ugly hole!

You think that's bad. Try some of the other sports. Apparently it's become popular in senior citizen and rehab facilities. I stick to the bowling and I still can't figure out how to make it hook and not hook. In tennis I hit them in the stands. Car racing...a crash every 300 yards.

I also tried bowling (not too hard) and boxing (impossibly random). I got into the golf, but still got confused over the buttons. Funny, though... my mom (who's pushing 80 and plays golf) did better than I did -- and she's never played a video or computer game! eek lol

It's the first time I played this year, and I can't move. I hurt every place I can mention, and a few I can't. I might have to start renting a cart. I shot a 94. Not too bad considering I haven't swung a club in about 9 months.

And you played TODAY?? I got bad news for you... soreness usually sets in the next day! eek lol

I've only been on a real course a handful of times -- the cart is fun. wink

I didn't feel too bad until I got home. I felt pretty good on the course.
When I got home, I looked like a 90 year old man getting out of my car.

The last time I used a cart was in Florida. There was some alcohol involved, and it was almost ugly. lol

I usually play about twice a month weather permitting. Last year I was playing at least once a week. I'm going back to my old irons this year. Last year I bought new Taylor Made Irons, and I can hit them well. The best part of my game is driving. I'm a long hitter. Somehow I can hit the ball 275-300 yards on a pretty regular basis. My problem is keeping things straight, and my short game stinks. I consider a good day when I break 90, which isn't too often.

Hunter Mahan shot a 63 today, without a single bogey. I wonder what that must feel like? ohwell

I shot a 63... in the Tiger Woods game for Playstation. wink

As for my golf game, it sucks because I have no in between. Either I hit a really beautiful shot or I shank it. Pretty irritating.

I know the feeling. I hate when I hit two great shots on a hole, only to duff the 3rd shot or 3 putt. I also usually have 1 or 2 holes where I completely meltdown.

My best shots are from bunkers... that's where I have the most practice. lol

(Then I went on to the back nine).

Seriously, the best round I ever shot on a regulation course was a 77 (on the Yellow course at Bethpage).... and that was with one double bogey!! Those days are long gone; I haven't played in years and I'd be lucky to shoot 110 now.

Two golf holes stand out in my memory and I guess they always will. Allow to me to brag for a bit:

Back in 1974 I went to Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico, and played on it's championship course. There was one LONG par-5 that had a big dogleg left over water. The resort had a standing offer - if you eagled the hole, you'd get your room free for a week. Well, I was hitting the ball well that week, and this one particular day, I was really creaming it. Now, I usually hit a fade and that's how I played this hole on the earlier rounds. This day I thought I'd try to hook it over the water (the carry was at least 270 yards). I locked up my left side and absolutely hit the piss out of the ball... it cleared the water and ran up the fairway (probably totalling 350 yards off the tee). I was faced with a fairly straight second shot of about 225 yards to the pin. I pulled out my trusty 3 wood and put the ball on the middle of the green about 35 feet from the cup.

So here I am, putting for an eagle and a free week at the hotel..... I ended up three putting for a par. frown

Second "brag": About 15 years ago I visited my parents in Florida and my dad used to play at an "executive" course (probably about 6,000 yards). I was playing regularly then and hitting the ball well. This day, it was very warm, and I was TOTALLY relaxed and loose. We came up to the first par 4 (only about 310 yards) with a slight dogleg right (which favored my fade). I had the honors but told my dad and the two guys we were playing with to hit because the foursome ahead of us was just getting to the green. I waited until the foursome ahead putted out before I approached the tee. The two other guys we were playing with looked at each other with rolling eyes, but when I put the ball pin high on the fringe they stopped rolling their eyes. I putted in for an eagle.

The rest of the day (I think I shot a 71 or 72) these guys looked at me like I was a pro. It was a great feeling and one I'll never forget.

That's awesome.

I've been on a course maybe a handful of times, years ago. My highlight was chipping from the sandtrap into the hole. We never really kept score, though, as I was (and still am) a beginner... wink
