Apparently, there are abount 60 counties in New York state. The county gasoline tax you referred to is actually a sales tax that the county may impose on all sales with a few exceptions.


Yes. As I said, there are dozens. The tax breaks down to about 18 cents from federal, 35 cents from the state, and then whatever your county (and it sometimes varies even within counties, as cities can impose their own) charges. That's why the "average" is about 58 cents per gallon. Which is almost $9 on a 15 gallon purchase.
