That seems to be an increasing trend too. People would probably feel happier if they talked about happier things more often.

Ever watch a newscast?

Here's 10 bad things that happened today, and 1 good one.

Long as I remember The rain been coming down.
Clouds of Mystery pouring Confusion on the ground.
Good men through the ages, Trying to find the sun;
And I wonder, Still I wonder, Who'll stop the rain.

That's why I rarely watch the news...I probably shouldn't avoid it, but it's so depressing that I usually hate to have it on. I remember a few years back, waking up early for school, eating breakfast, and the news was always on - and I'd find myself in a horrible mood after watching it. And I think the evening and night news is probably worse - or I've joked about it being that way, because there's been more time in the day for bad stuff to happen.

And that's why I rely on Jon and Stephen for keeping up with current events. wink

---

My random post: my mom just gave me a post-it note cube that she got at the store, and I...can't stop smelling it. I've always had a thing for office supplies, and I swear, these post-its have the distinct smell of an office supply store, like Office Depot. And they were wrapped in plastic! Yet smell so good.

Hey, my dad likes the smell of Home Depot, so I'm not the only weird one.

I rarely watch regular News -- the only times I do is when they mention some *exceptional* "coming up at 11, THIS will kill you if you don't know about it!" spot, when I'm like, "if you really care about your audience, why not tell them hours sooner??" lol

I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

I get the same effect from a freshly opened pack of looseleaf paper. It reminds me of September - the first days of school.

On a simliar (sticky)note, I love the smell of brand new paperback books. I flip the pages in front of my nose over and over. It reminds me of doing that when I was too young to read a "grownup" book, but I would play with my Dad's books that he was always reading and leaving around. Of course I had to always move his bookmark as well.

EDIT: And by "grownup" book I meant anything more complicated than Dr. Seuss, not what YOU were thinking Geoff. grin

You mean the mimeographed copies?? I used to get high from them. By the time I finished sixth grade I was on a three page per day habit.

When I was a senior in high school, I volunteered as a teacher's aide in my Italian class. The best part of it was that I got to make all the mimeographs. That purple stuff was way cool.

I remember dittos/mimeograph too. As a matter of fact, we still have one in the work area of my school. I can't say I see anyone use it. It's been there forever. eek

I remember my first job at an insurance company having to type with carbon paper. If you made a mistake you'd have to correct each copy with a typing eraser than typing tape and then white out. Now..whew!!!! It's a piece of cake typing has become. You can save documents in your computer. If you need to change the date or reword or whatever, how easy it is. grin

I always liked to smell that White Out liquid. And those huge black markers.

Many of our tests in grade school were given on mimeographs. Everyone would press the tests to their faces before starting the test. Even in high school we had mimeographs. One particular Jesuit would say after passing them out, "Inhale, then fail."

I also have never minded the smell of skunks. While I wouldn't pick the scent for an air freshener, I don't think it is unpleasant.

I think that the worst smell I ever experienced was by a slaughterhouse on a hot summer day.

I hit a skunk with my car. No matter how much I scrubbed it, cleaned it, aired it out, sprinkled it with baking soda, you could still smell it on humid days. UGH! It was horrible. If I had only known, Klyd, I would have sold it to you. The minute the dealer offered to let me out of my lease early, as long as I leased another car from him, I almost threw the car at him.

Today was my daughter's birthday/graduation party. It was lovely. The best part of the whole party was that she asked people (or groups) to come up and help her light each candle of her cake.

I know that many of you remember that her best friend was badly injured in a car accident last year, spending a long time in a coma. She has recovered well, although she did sustain some brain damage, and she walks with a slight limp, which is way more than we EVER expected. However, the speech that my daughter gave before she requested her to come up to light her candle pretty much had all of us bawling our eyes out. I was so very, very proud of my girl today.

They've been best friends since they were 8, so to see them together today, when I think of how closely we came to losing her last year, was just the best gift!

What an amazing day. You should be very proud mama. It'll come full circle when you see her turn her tassel at graduation. It doesn't get any better than that.

That's beautiful SB. You have a wonderful daughter. Happy birthday/graduation to her. smile

I certainly can relate to her friend's recovery being "more" than anyone expected. After coming so close to losing my little brother last March, I too appreciate how he's coming along with what seems at this point, no major after-affect.

Anyway, my best to your daughter and in respect to "caring" here's to yours and to wonderful families in general.

Thanks, guys. It really was terrific. And my nephew and his girlfriend came from VA for the party and announced their engagement! We love his girlfriend, so we're really thrilled for them. They are just the cutest couple. It was just an overwhelming day emotionally.

Happy birthday today to my niece's son Joshua who turns 2. Where does the time go?

He still has another surgery coming up in a couple months, plus one or two in the years to come.

Happy birthday buddy!!!!!!!

My nephew went to college in VA, he and his girlfriend got jobs down there, and just got their own apartment. They're near DC.

Congrats to Joshua, Beth! Hope his surgeries go well. It's so hard when they're that little, isn't it?

I remember when we had to tell my daughter that she needed another surgery. She was about 6, and she threw herself on her bed and started crying and yelling that she wasn't going back to that STINKY hospital for another STINKY surgery. It just broke my heart. Then she suddenly sat up and said, "Will I get presents?", and we assured her she would, and then she said, "OK, I'll go," and was all smiles.
