Why is it when you sneeze people say God Bless you. If you cough no one gives a damm. You could be hacking up a long and close to choking to death, but as far as God goes, you're on your own. You get a booger in your nose and people want to say Hail Mary's.
Oh and before I forget, God Bless the retards.
I had always heard that the custom came from the time of the bubonic plague when a sneeze was thought to be an early sign of the plague. But it is apparent that just about every culture has some similar response to sneezes, and that the practice of acknowledging a sneeze with a blessing probably predated the plague.
