Its almost funny out here on the Island. Every station within the two miles I drive to the expressway is holding at $3.99, as if they don't want to be the first to crack the $4 barrier. I'm sure that once one does, the others will follow within 30 seconds.

Long Island must be really bad SC. On our local news they were talking about which are the places with the highest prices and they singled out Long Island.

I can't speak for other places simply because I don't know what gas is selling for elsewhere (I really haven't driven far since Thanksgiving). I've seen the prices over $4 in some other towns out here, but its holding just under $4 near me.

I did see, however, one place out east was selling gas for $4.75 a gallon!!

Diesel here is up to $5.00, and I think premium is about $4.75. It ranges from about $3.90 to $4.00 here.

I never really thought much about how much I spent on gas in the good ol' past. Now, when I know I'm gonna be off work for vacation and/or spring break or something. I think, "cool, an extra $200 or so. Now, that's pretty sad when you think about it.

You'd think with Ocean City being the big tourist attaction gas would be more there. On the Eastern Shore the average is about $3.65 a gallon. Some pumps there only take cash though.

I had to go down to the village this morning to help my aunt with some paperwork. Anyway, coming home I took 12th avenue/west side highway all the way back into the Henry Hudson. There's a ridiculously overpriced car wash/gas station not far from the Intrepid. So while heading north, I look to my right to see their gas prices: $4.45/$4.58/$4.70. I mean, you might take that with a grain of salt because it's Manhattan and a tourist trap gas station, but DEAR GOD!!!!

3.71 today. Please let it keep going down. I know it won't though with Memorial Day weekend coming up.

I took my nephew and his roommate from NYU to the ESPNZone in Times Square last month for Sunday afternoon lunch and a few beers. There was some silly raffle, with the winner getting a subscription to one of their publications, right? There's a thousand tourists in the place, and Pizzaboy, who has lived his whole life within the city limits (save for my time in Florida and a couple of years in Westchester), is the guy who wins.

But lunch cost me almost $200, so it was no bargain.

Feel free to take me out for a $200 lunch PB.

$200? Must have been some big burger. My daughter wanted to go in there when I took her a few years ago. There's an ESPN Zone downtown where I work. I wasn't spending time in New York in there.

So we had dinner at Olive Garden.

Actually, the food was reasonable, it's the drinks that get you. I mean, three grown men, drinking beers that are like $7 a piece in the city. It doesn't take long to get to $200. Believe me.

One of the local places jumped to $4.07 last night. I expect a lot of the others will go above $4 tonight.

Since this thread started about 14 months ago, I've seen the prices rise from about $2.45 per gallon to now $4.00. Thats $1.55 per gallon increase.

The price of a barrel jumped $4 yesterday!! Thats a record. Whats that gonna relate to at the pump this week?

One small fallout of these price rises is American Airlines is now charging $15 to check a bag on all its flights.

They are strangling the working class in this country. The fallout from rising fuel costs has hit the ability to pay our utility bills, commute to and from work, take a vacation, or, God forbid, buy food. The movie theaters are even saying that they need to raise the prices of tickets to cover the rising cost of POPCORN (because $6 wasn't covering their margin??). People can't pay their mortgages and they can't sell their houses. Schools say that they need to raise taxes to cover the cost of heat.

How much longer do they expect the American people to bend over and take it???

In our plastic-oriented society, we often forget just how many things we buy are petroleum-based products.

Stupid article in our paper recently about how people are trading in their autos for more gas-efficient models. There was a story about the poor stockbroker who traded in his Hummer for a Volvo convertible, which gets 22 miles to the gallon. He actually keeps a picture of the Hummer with him because he misses it so much. Oh, boo hoo, you elitist jackass.

Of all the human interest stories they could do, THAT'S the one they picked? How about the poor guys who cram 6 people into a Sentra to save on gas, so they can keep going to their $8 an hour pick and pack jobs at some warehouse?

What are they going to do about it? It'll be $5.00 a gallon by the end of the summer.
We need to make serious changes to our way of living and sacrifices. Unfortunately the last president who spike the truth about the impending oil crisis and the need to change things was a man in a cardigan sweater who was roundly ridiculed, and booted out after one term.
