One thing that always makes me enjoy the book even more each time i read it is the portratal of sonny, and how it shows how truly feared he was aswell as his temper and aggressiveness. One of my favourite parts of the book is the part where the furnace men go to the mall to try to swindell them shortly after they move in, it cracks me up every time.

I love that part, too. Don Vito's playing "stupid" (to test how Sonny would handle that situation) makes me laugh.

I guess those "furnace inspectors" chose the wrong house to try to scam!

Real funny. I always tried to picture James Caan screaming at those Bastinato-ed guys that he'd have their B@lls hanging outta their ears...

Besides that, I always wondered how Vito would have handled that situation. My best guess is that he'd either dispatch Luca Brasi to send that company boss some fishes (or flowers), or have Genco put some "rejonah" into the guy's head.

The book stated that Vito wasn't all to happy in the way that Sonny handled the scam artists. He was too direct, and lacked the subtely that the Don preferred.

I don't know exactly what Don Vito would have done differently, but he wouldn't have resorted to any direct threats, and I guess part of his "genius" was to let others handle minor situations like this.

Speaking of Sonny's temper, I always laugh at Michael's line in Part III when Vincent Mancini (Sonny's son) loses his temper with Joey Zasa in Mike's home, and Mike remarks, "Temper like his father".

It is when Mike jumps in his chair when Vincent screams "RIGHT?" that really amuses me and not the line. It's quite ironic to know that the man who controls the commission jumps at such loud screams.

Sonny's temper (And Caan's acting) was genuine and not forced. I find vincenzo's temper in GFIII hamfisted and forced, it just doesnt seem to come naturally to him because he's so slick and all of a sudden he bites off Zaza's ear. It's just not the same, and as usual, GFI reigns supreme over its sickly grandson film

He had the traits of Michael and Sonny. Sonny's temper and Michaels coolness. He waited till the perfect time to lose his temper when he was close to Zasa to insult him. If that was Sonny he would have run across the room to go bite his ear off but he would have been stopped by Zasa's guy by then.

I agree with you that the Godfather III was, still a good film, but the plot was watered down, the Don was made to look weak and the family as a whole was made to look like it was never as strong and powerful as it was in I & II. But I do not think that Andy Garcia's acting appeared "hamfisted" because he was his fathers son but he was not his father, Andy had to portray the way in which the younger generations had changed throughout the ages and in my opinion he was very talented at this. If there was anyone who brought down the Godfather III, acting wise, it would have had to have been, Sophia Copolla, although one of the most excellent and talented directors I have seen, I definetly think that the godfather III proves that she was definetly NOT an actor, but aside from this, I still think that the Godfather III wasn't anywhere near the first two...

Garcia's acting (when he was being violent) wasn't bad. I agree with you there. You could argue Santino was acting badly the same way when he was violent, and as we all know, he turned in an excellent role. My main problem with Vincent (the rest of the characters being acceptable other than B.J Harrison and Sofia) is that his voice parts arent great. He has good lines... "I want the power to preserve the family" "I dont want out", but he seems to lack enthusiasm and I find that the lines and shots have been very edited, making it choppy and the package delivered much less naturally. That's my 2c anyway

You know Joey, you have a valid point. I also think that Vincent's lines, although good, could have been performed better using better emotional effects.

I think that Garcia, inspite being very good in GFIII, lacked the background-indulgence into the character.

Sorry, excuse my ignorance, I didn't pay as much attention to part III because, it simply showed that Mario Puzo had no or little hand in it, but who was played by B. J Harrison?

Sonny was funny while his father made money.

Constanzia, that was a valid question, there is no "ignorance" to excuse. Although his name is not mentioned once in the film's entirety, the role portrayed by veteran actor George Hamilton in GFIII is the mysterious "B.J. Harrison." The bizarrely-named successor to the legacy of the missing Tom Hagen.

yeah, I always wondered where he came from. btw, Michael calls him "B.J." a couple of times. Maybe someone lese calls him "Mr. Harrison", i don't know .It's been a while since I watched GFIII
