I just filled up my car at Costco and Paid $3.12.

The other gas stations in my neighborhood are charging anywhere from $3.29 - $3.42!!

Sunday morning I had to run over to New Jersey for something so I filled up my wife's car at HESS for $2.87.

If I would have driven to New Jersey this evening to get gas, I would have saved .25 a gallon but would have used up the gas to drive there and back and would have had to pay a $5.00 toll for the bridge. So it only really pays for me to get gas in New Jersey if I we go there to shop or something. Then it's worth it.

DC, I'm so close to the Jersey border that I'm able to fill up in Jersey when I take my daughter to CCD. But Mr. Babe filled up at Costco today and paid only $2.97. Weird that they charge more by you. Are there NYC taxes?

Bingo! You bet your behind there is!

See, to me, that's where all of our government officials and politicians are full of shit when they say somethig has to be done to lower gas prices to help the consumer.

It's very easy: take away the federal, state and city excise taxes, and you lower the price of gasoline because taxes are the second largest contributor to the price paid at the pump. Together Federal and State excise taxes on fuel account for an average cost of approximately 62 cents per gallon!!!!!

Ridiculous. Actually, they did away with one of the taxes here, but it was such a small percentage, that it only averaged 4 cents less per gallon.

Think about it! An Average of .62 cents per gallon! That's outrageous!

Gas prices are expected to go up 12-15ยข per gallon in the next two weeks because of a refinery fire (in Texas).

I could just see the big shots at Exxon, sitting around their conference room table coming up with that idea. "Hey, we haven't used this excuse in a couple of years".

Of course, just when it dropped about 8 cents, it's only natural for it to go back up.

Anyone who believes anything other than these a-holes are using us to make money hand over fist is truly blind. I'm so sick of this. This will be the excuse for the gas to remain high forever. It may go down very little, but people will just be forced to accept it. All crooks!!!! You know the saying....the rich get richer.

That's what I don't understand about this election, TIS. Why are we not asking the candidates more about energy and energy alternatives. It's obviously become a MAJOR chunk of everyone's monthly bills. Why don't I know any of the candidates' position on this?

I agree SB, and this is something the average person takes very seriously. I went from living 1 mile from work to almost 30 miles from work. It's a real dent in the budget for sure.

I wish they would talk more about it. I think perhaps with the war, and here in CA, immigration, maybe this takes a back seat, I don't know. Then again, fuel costs surely are a factor in the states that have horribly cold winters. Is no one ever accountable? We just believe whatever they tell us is the reason and we accept I guess.

My husband drives 600 miles a week to work, so it sure does put a dent. My gas and electric bill was $850 last month, and I'm sure it will be about the same this month.

That's not nearly as bad as one of my coworkers. He had oil delivered to the tune of $1700, which he at least thought would last for quite some time. Then the oil company came back 3 weeks later and left a bill for an additional $1200. Can you imagine having to shell out $3000 to heat your home???

I can honestly say, if he promised to make gas $2 a gallon, and he could be held to that promise, I'd vote for Homer Simpson in the upcoming election.

Really.

Times like this I am VERY happy that heat/hot water/cooking gas are included in my rent (well, gas apartments are about $100 more than electric apartments -- but WELL worth it because electric is getting out of control, too!)!!

Exxon made record profits last year - $40 billion. The other day the newspaper reported a 14 year high in gasoline surplus......and Congress is investigating steroids in baseball. What's wrong with this picture? How about getting these bastards on a RICO charge?

I don't know about everyone else's area, but I've heard on the news to expect $4.00 a gallon by summer. Pisses me off man. I wanna kick someone's ass. I don't have a freekin' money tree in my yard.
