Thing is, both versions of SCARFACE are great and unique in their own individual selves.

Really, we gotta credit Sidney Lumet(before leaving the SCARFACE remake project when he didn't like Oliver Stone's script. At least Lumet is getting an Oscar finally this year) for coming up with the premise of the remake to not just mimic Howard Hawkes' original involving prohibition in 1920/30's Chicago with Italian immigrants but instead go in a new path....going from Italian to Cuban immigrants of 1980....changing the "gold" forbidden narcotic from alcohol to cocaine...but still keeping the same basic story.

Thing is, WHAT could a 3rd version of SCARFACE be done with without seeming to be a similar copycat of Brian DePalma's remake? Then again, if someone in Hollywood with a creative intellect(which is like looking for a virgin in Washington D.C.) can come up with an intriging new take on the same basic story that makes up both SCARFACE movies....it might work.

Until then, I piss on it!
