Chicagoans have an accent? Then again, when I first moved to California I was told I had a Michigan (Midwest) accent :o. I never heard of such a thing. I talk normal, everyone else has an accent.

I've learned that sometimes certain words/phrases come from certain areas, and not others.

When I first moved here, I did substitute office work (before I got in permanently) for the schools in my city. I told my boss that it was kind of "nippy" outside. He smiled and kind of chuckled, and looked at me and said, "you're not from around here are you?" I learned they don't use the word "nippy" in CA

Also, NOBODY ever ever calls coke, pepsi, etc. POP. Ha ha ha ha...it's definitely called "Soda" here in CA. I remember first ordering it in a restaurant here and the waitress asked me "what's that?" "Oh, you mean soda?" I use to always call it pop in Michigan. Now, I never do, and when I went back to visit my family, I chuckled because they called it pop.

When I lived in VA one time I was on my break at work and I told the boss I was going to get a pop and asked her if she wanted one. She said what is a pop? I laughed a little and told her I was going to get a Pepesi. She laughed and said yea I'll take a sody.

Oh yeah they do. Even here in "the region" (Northwest Indiana) there's an accent. It seems to affect the letter a the most.
