Damn, man, then uni will get in the way.

I've heard it's better than The Sopranos, but I'm going to approach The Wire as, essentially, a different sort of show altogether.

Agreed. They really are different.

One of my friends said it's a better comparison to The Shield (though he stresses The Wire is much better).

While The Shield is a far better comparison than The Sopranos, it still is way off. No disrespect to your friend, but once you see The Wire, you'll know it's true.

I love it, too.

Speaking of the boards, I'd genuinely love it if you joined...

Never say never.

PS. By the sounds of it, I think season four of The Wire will be my favourite. If I get that far. \:\)

I have it tied with Season Three. Season Two isn't too far behind.

When you say that, I hope you mean that access to the rest of the seaons is the limiting factor. Even if Season One doesn't interest you, I recommend still going through the rest and eventually finishing the whole series.

Sort of like recommending someone go through the entire The Sopranos series even if they didn't find Season One interesting enough to go on. Believe me, I've met quite a few and read of people on the internet who didn't go on watching the series because Season One didn't hook them. I think it's a shame because I do think Season Two, Three, Four, and Six Part Two are better than One. Not to mention the great stand alone episodes throughout.

Same for The Decalogue, Seinfeld,...
