Over at your boards, you mentioned watching The Wire on your semester break. Will your retrospective get in the way of that? I hope not, I really think The Wire is the superior show in terms of content, themes, relevance, scope, and narrative art and craft. The Sopranos probably has the edge in characters in terms of eccentricity and soundtrack and stuff like that.
I think the retrospective
will get in the way, yes. I've been watching three to five episodes in a row every night, finishing at about four in the morning. I go back to uni a week on Monday, so I won't have time for
The Wire. But I'll be taking it back to uni with me...
I've heard it's better than
The Sopranos, but I'm going to approach
The Wire as, essentially, a different sort of show altogether. One of my friends said it's a better comparison to
The Shield (though he stresses
The Wire is
much better).
The Sopranos has a special place in my heart these days. I'm actually in love with it.
Speaking of the boards, I'd genuinely love it if you joined...
PS. By the sounds of it, I think season four of
The Wire will be my favourite. If I get that far.
