I bought season one of The Wire, upon Kino and other people's recommendations. Haven't started it yet, though; I want to finish Sopranos first, and then head into it fresh.

The Wire is the superior show in terms of content, themes, relevance, scope, and narrative art and craft.
The Sopranos probably has the edge in characters in terms of eccentricity and soundtrack and stuff like that.
